Thought it was a horror story at first
Way to go Patricia!
Happy Birthday to The Woman in her Bathroom and to the woman she became. I love this growing old is hard. When she wrote about her grandchildren it turned on the waterworks for me. Thank you for sharing. I will see myself differently in the mirror now.
I would give anything to be young again.
🏅
Old happens and it’s a difficult adjustment. She recognized she was loved by family just as she was. You have a beautiful memory of her.
Today is my recently-passed mother’s birthday, so I felt that was some tangential connection between us.
Your grandma could write and I bet she was an amazing woman. I’m sorry for your loss but good on you for celebrating her like this on her birthday 🙂
Then there’s my grandma‘s poem….
”Don‘t ever get old, it’s painful, it’s no fun, it’s a bitch, and then you just die.”
Your grandmother had a way with words… She was a gifted poetess!
Very beautiful. Expected to be scared at the end but ended up very emotional
Crying!!!
A lot of existential terror to aging, a slip back to the void, but there is beauty here too :”))
My little nephew saw a picture of me when I was young and told me it was a terrible picture. He loves the middle aged me.
tbh that teared me up a bit…
That’s NANA! ❤️
Beautiful
As a 44 year old, who could have been, maybe should be, dead twice, you are right. Aging is a damn privilege!
Your grandmother was special.
That is so lovely. Thank you for every piece of feelings I just felt. I should go eat dinner at nana’s today
This is brilliant!
I’m struggling with aging & this poem really helped me smile with acceptance. What a creative woman she was & TYVM for sharing. 💜
Wonderful!!👏👏🙏🏻🙏🏻))
You have to produce the poem and make it a song my friend. It’s so well written . If you allow I would want to give it a go
Grams dropping rhymes and truth
Well fuck, I’m a grown ass man and this made me cry😐
She must have been a very wise, lovely lady. Amen!
This is beautiful and touching.
Can relate. I’m 77 and look older.
Reminds me of Sylvia Plath ‘The Mirror’
Very beautiful!
Aging is not for the faint of heart!
Well done, sad and true. Glad she found happiness with her grandkids
aging sucks more than you realize until you run into it like hitting a brick wall
You will lose security in the most basic things in life…the ability to sleep, eat, work…
but yes, you have to make peace with it, because the idealized version of yourself (when you were young, hot, and strong) was vapor in the wind, and is not a more valid version of you, than older you
When I look at my watch, I see wrinkles on my arm, they weren’t there until recently. Getting old is a strange thing.
Happy remembrance birthday, thank you for sharing.
That’s awesome! Lol..I tell ppl younger than me, do your best to age gracefully. It won’t get easier!
Wow, your grandmother is a beautiful writer, thanks for sharing! I didn’t expect the poem to end so positively, says something about my own fears of aging 😉
That’s a beautiful poem. I love her style too. Did she write more?
As Dorothy Parker wrote:
> Time may be a great healer, but it’s a lousy beautician.
Aging draws a fine line between curse and blessing.
I’m 46. Starting to sag. Having memory problems. Joints starting to hurt all over. Hair turning grey. I still feel like a 20 year kid but I look in the mirror and it is surreal. Who is this old man? I’m not even that old yet. Aging sucks.
Brought a tear to my eye. Very Nice.
Very nice poem! Makes you stop and ponder.
Time is a harsh mistress
Didn’t expect to get misty eyed over grandma’s poem, but here I am.
talented lady
That’s a fun poem. Little did she know that thousands of strangers would read and enjoy it later in life.
It was absolutely delightful.
Major Shel Silverstein vibes
Beautiful!
