Did something similar last year. My daughter wanted a bed with storage that she could paint rainbows an other patterns on. Nothing we looked at had big enough drawers or had enough surface area for painting like she wanted. So I just built one from scratch to her specifications. It isn’t fancy and isn’t something anyone would confuse with a store bought frame, but it was exactly what she wanted and I had fun building it.

Looks awesome, did this with my desk. Ordered a slab of butcher block and custom legs off Etsy for it and I have the perfect desk now AND about $1200 cheaper then a company selling it.
Much easier then making this bed head board though
