It’s her birthday today and I’m missing her. She was around 19 or 20 in this photo. She met and fell in love with my grandpa while working at the Coast Guard. Hurricane Ike blew through Galveston the day she passed.

This is so interesting! My gramps was in the coast guard a couple years after this and his first duty assignment was working out of Galveston (and then worked Corpus Christi for a while). He was always spinning yarns about his coast guard adventures in Galveston, and all the wild stuff he and my grandma did back then, including going to underground casinos run by the mafia (the Fertitta family FYI).
