I like going to antique stores and thrift shops and trying to imagine who decided to keep some of this stuff and how people decide to sell it instead of tossing it out.

I bought a rusty took box with some tools in it at a consignment shop.
I cleaned up all the tools and restored the tool box. One of the wrenches is over 100 years old and worth more than everything I paid for. I’m keeping that one.
I sold the apothecary set that was in there for almost exactly what it cost me to restore everything. So I’m ahead on this one.
Antique shops are like old gold mines. Most of what you see is junk but once in a while you find that gold nugget. Just a couple of days ago I found a framed cross-stitch picture that was perfect for a spot in my house and it was only 8 USD. I like looking through them.
My favorite example of “bottle” is modern glass bottles of coke from like two Christmases ago being sold as if they were vintage

Most antique shops like this only ever truly exist for a couple months. At that point they are basically museums whether they want to be or not.
One antique shop in my hometown had the exact same inventory for like 20 years. The only things worth anything was marked not for sale and kept as decoration. They closed when the owner retired/died.

I’ll take the rusty tools. It’s fun to restore them and not all that difficult. AND many times they can high quality tools from a time forgotten.
My booth has, Video games (retro and new), Anime Products (figurines and accessories such as backpacks), some antiques and brick a brack, a Litteral Tub of dollar toys. A Tub of various Plushes, Dvds/BR/VHS (but a lot of kung fu and anime).

We used to love thrift stores and antique shops.
I don’t think they can be called antiques in the UK unless they’re over 100 years old.
We call these kinds of shops Vintage or Retro. Or just Shit Shops because they’re full of shit.
Jerry has the best anecdotes. Was in the navy in Vietnam as a radar specialist. At night there were the weirdest blips from ionosphere.
I lucked out once and found a gorgeous straight razor in its original burgundy box, Solingen steel. Yellow amber handle.

In my defense I went into a thrift shop over the weekend and scored a minty-CIB Zelda Twilight Princess for Gamecube for ONE DOLLAR. There was still a ton of shit like this in there though… But it’s not all shit🙂
I am 41 and have been into “antiquing” for most of my life. While this absolutely does ring true for a lot of shops, there are also a lot of really great stores with expertly curated merchandise and my wife and I have a pretty good circuit of places that we visit regularly. In one of those places I recently saw a Sony Mavica digital camera. The kind that uses a 3.5″ floppy disc as storage.
I almost died inside. I had used that exact model as part of my first job in 1999.
