Are they using a hair dryer to cool her down?
This movie was one of the inspirations for the design of the character C3-PO from Star Wars.
Machine ‘man’?
Pretty sure she was never called “The Machine Man”. Originally it is Maschinenmensch (literally ‘machine-human’) and in the novel her name is Futura but she’s often called Robot/False Maria (the human she impersonates).
Wow!!
Was it a good movie for anyone who has watched?
Is this a shitpost? There should be a more specific term for this.
Catfishposting? OkBoomerpost?
Great movie! It’s silent and long but the special effects, story, and directing are all amazing.
It’s a woman. A machine woman not a machine man.
I’ve jerked off to this metal hotty more times than I can remember.
The scene with her dancing always freaked me out
I’ll cool u off with a hair dryer /s
Dude behind seems impressive
So is it woke that is the question
Love this movie but damn this looks like a modern shot to me. Just something about how the actress looks. And is that a hairdryer on the right??
Still can’t decide whether the movie is communist or not
They had hairdryers back then!
Where she really wanted that airflow was down her back underneath the suit
That costume was brutal for Brigitte Helm to wear. She begged Lang to hire a double to wear the costume instead of her, or at least so they could split the time in the costume so she wouldn’t have to wear it all day for days and days. He refused. When she pointed out that viewers wouldn’t know it wasn’t her, he purportedly responded, “But I’LL know.”
This is literally a felony now in Florida
Depending on your definition, she was the first robot character in any work of science fiction. Prior to her any robots were mindless monsters, no more of a character than, say, the villain’s pickup truck.
Not “machine man..”.. woman. Ultima..or the False maria…thanks..great photo

How is that movie? Heard it had satanic/illuminati symbolism? But was also like… Ahead of it’s time?
Blowing heat in case she is too cold.
I’m an idiot I know, but I was surprised that they had straws in 1927.
Edit: Damn! The oldest drinking straw in existence, found in a Sumerian tomb dated 3,000 BCE, was a gold tube inlaid with the precious blue stone lapis lazuli.
*Rotwang making excited sounds*
Classic. Love this movie.
Cooling off? With a hair dryer?
That’s a fucking cool shot. Awesome.
Wow.
That’s the suit who inspired the design of C-3PO.
Shout out to art deco.
Because of this picture I just learned that blow dryers were invented in 1890.
1890…
Wild!
God you just reminded me about that weirdly disturbing dance number in it. The way the men look and the weird gyrations disturbs me to this day!
Ah so *that’s* the inspiration for the Atomic Hearts robot twins.
Ah, yes, cooling off with a blow dryer to the neck.
Bollocks. It was a female robot.
this movie is so bonkers
MOLOCH!
She was a massive anti-semite. Hated Jews and thought they were “taking over” the film industry which led to both her retirement from acting and refusal to give interviews later in life.
Atomic heart reference
Nothing like cooling off with a hair dryer.
never once saw that character and thought “man”
From Wiki: “Helm stated that she retired from films because she was “…disgusted with the Nazi takeover of the film industry…”
Fun Fact 1: The original German three sheet poster for the movie, of which there are three believed to exist, fetches around USD$600K
*A three-sheet is three times larger than a ‘standard’ movie poster*
Fun Fact 2: A New Zealand print contained 11 missing scenes which were used to restore an original Argentinia print
Func Fact 3: It took me three attempts before I could watch and appreciate the whole movie. Well worth it.
