The Haka is the most unique spectacle in world sport. It has been performed before rugby games for over 100 years. But should it only be used in rugby?

A segment from the Garage Band Rugby Sports show where we discuss the Haka, how unique it is and whether or not it should be performed in sports other than rugby
It works with the rugby squad because they dominate.
Not so much with the basketball team.
Its a tribal pre battle dance, I don’t think it was intended for sport but the All Blacks pull it off because they dominate and are built like battle tanks.
They should test it out on Rhythmic Gymnastics. If they can pull it off that would be a clear green light.
If you seriously think it should only be performed before a rugby match, you really need to go learn your history and what a Haka symbolizes.
I’m not even a sports fan but the Haka is undeniably fascinating.
It’s such pure primal behaviour that all humans, no matter culture, understand.
Sometimes I wonder if anyone has ever slipped on a poo that fell out of their opponent when they were receiving the Haka.
Here’s [softball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi5V26yHG9g), [baseball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHDgXkOvo7Q), [basketball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnwwnIezVfY), [ice hockey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiLUasAnIDE), [field hockey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coJfOSAMaq0), [indoor cricket](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD2Qk095XY8) and [netball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9BJbQte-3c).
It was unique. Now it’s overplayed.
Iirc some Hawaiian American football teams have performed Haka in the past. Idk if they still do.
It’s used in every sport. NZ national teams and even many local teams in all sports use it all the time.
Yes, it’s iconic in Rugby and yes it looks a little silly done on the ice before an ice hockey game, it’s still very common.
I honestly find it cringe worthy. Not in the zoomer sense but I actually have to look away out of embarrassment when I see it done. Even with rugby. Real Maori dudes reenacting history are fine. But watching anyone else just feels like watching david Brent dance in the office. The opposing team has to politely watch the performance which makes it more embarassing.
I tune out during it, I also think national anthems have no place in sports matches.
