Also as someone who started with Dark Souls 2, while I don’t think I’d want to return to it I had a fantastic time.
Destiny 2, Forza Horizon 2, Dirt 2, SSX Tricky, and so many others are also amazing but to be fair I can name just as many sequels that were so bad I almost blinded myself so I didn’t have to see the atrocities laid before me
Honestly Aladdin and the king of thieves is better than return of Jafar, and it brought back Robin Williams as genie. So take note valve that trilogies can be nice.
Portal 2 is way better than portal 1. Of course one thing that makes it great is that it isn’t just a reskinned Half-Life 2…..also Wheatley.

I don’t think it’s exactly controversial to think a lot of gaming sequels are better than the originals?
It’s a different dynamic to movies, in games things are built upon and improved as series go on, rather than in movies where they often miss the mark trying to rehash the original.
Mass Effect 2 being my best example and favourite game of all time.
