I miss drunk history. Apparently they had an entire season’s worth of interviews already shot when they cancelled the show and the network won’t release the tapes. I hope someone picks it back up.
I had read about Nichelle and Shatner’s deliberate flubbing of the no-kiss takes in I Am Not Spock, but I didn’t know (or perhaps didn’t recall) that it was Dr. King who persuaded her to stay on Star Trek after the first season.
Am I misremembering, though, when I think that Uhura’s on-screen job was mostly ‘answering the space phone?’
I had no idea she recruited Sally Ride (first American woman in space-Russians beat us there, too). That’s cool!
She technically didn’t have the first interracial kiss on TV between a white and black- that was Nancy Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr a little less than a year earlier. But that was just on the cheek.
And even that was only the first one on American TV. There was one four years prior on a British show, and another nearly a decade prior in the Netherlands.
None of this should take away at all the accomplishments of Nichelle and Gene and all the rest. Just a little additional perspective.
I heard the news, yesterday. RIP Nichelle / “Lt. Uhura”
While I only saw a few TOS TV episodes, I can now say that I have seen ST : The Motion Picture, all the way to ST VI : The Undiscovered Country. Didn’t we all?

What an icon. We’ll always love you, Ms. Nichols.
I really enjoyed this.
A great tribute video to Nichelle Nichols. She was undoubtedly one of a kind. A fantastic, talented actress, in a fantastic show.
RIP. You will be missed by many, but your legacy will always live on.
Icon & Legend.. Rest in power Queen❤🌿✔
“I’m Martin Luther King. I have no chill.”
Is she the one who made this unavailable in my country?
Kind of? Um no… She’s a legend.
I’d like to see Jaleel White in some more roles. RIP Nichelle Nichols.
“Kind of”. She was!

Is the actress playing Sally Ride that woman who was on the old school Cracked videos?
Not “kind of”. WAS a total badass.
Learned of her death through this post. Thanks OP. A bit of a sad but more of a happy as I’m well aware of how few fucks she dispensed. RIP.
This is awesome. Are there more of these?

Nobody mentioning how Jaleel White is playing MLK?
Is that Ray Ray?

We are all worse off without her.
Yikes
This post is how I found out that she died
“Captain, there is a bright white light hailing.”
but RAVEN AND URKEL
I’m such a fucking dumbass somehow I misread the title as dumbass and was like *what the actual fuck.*
Raven Symone is so fucking funny. She should be in more stuff.
I like how Jaleel White went from playing Urkel to playing MLK. That’s a hell of an achievement

mirror?
Video unavailable in your country…the fact that this is still an issue upsets me. RIP Nichelle.
Im pretty sure this is where NPR got their segment about her today
“Something’s wrong. Murder isn’t working, and that’s all we’re good at!”
“we don’t know anyone who’s not a white dude”
If true, it’s cool that they messed up and dragged the takes of the kissing scene, forcing the hand of the editing department.
“Kind of”?
What a splendidly back handed compliment.
Edit:
Drunk History checks out.
I get it now.
