It looks pretty good? The sets, action, and vibe seem to fit from what little we can see. I think everyone is really cast well, though the Kurama actor I’m a bit hesitant about just based purely on the look– but if the acting makes it believable I can see this doing really well. Hopefully it’s as good as Netflix’s One Piece.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a top 5 anime, it’s genuinely one of my comfort shows, a perfect 90s Shonen to watch, so this one has had a lot for me to worry about.

But know what? I think it looks downright decent. TOGURO could be a bit more intimidating but he hasn’t yolked up yet, and everyone is looking fairly decent.

I’m almost hesistant to say….are we gonna get 3 decent cartoon to live action adaptions in One Piece, YYH, and Avatar?

So I thought it was going to be a movie, but I guess it’s a series? (wikipedia has slot for 3 episodes, not sure how accurate that is)

So we’ve got the spirit detective intro, we’ve got the whole Toguro thing (with Bui and Karasu???)…do we know what’s in between? I see Genkai also.

Wow, they actually nailed it in the action and choreography department. Cinematography and CGI look quite decent too. Is it the Netflix money that’s making this look more expensive than most Japanese productions?

On the flipside, still not on board with the casting or wardrobing. I straight up laughed out loud with that first shot of Kurama in his wig.

With this trailer, the acting and tone seems off too. Everything overly serious and Yusuke with some cliche somber motivated line about protecting people doesn’t have any of his comedic charm whatsoever. Potentially most detrimental of all, seems like the writers are cramming and consolidating a bunch of material into one season.

YYH is one of my favorite anime of all time. Everything here looks about as good as you can get in a live action adaptation… except the guy playing Yusuke feels like he’s got no personality. I really hope it’s an example of the trailer going for a tone that doesn’t quite match the actual show, because I really need him to be way bigger with his emotions

It’s so weird how this was supposed to be a manga about a spirit detective, then just became about fighting in tournaments.

I have the same complaint about Bleach. Starts out about becoming a substitute soul reaper, then just becomes about one on one fights.

Like… why does it always devolve into fighting 1v1?

I don’t see this working unfortunately. Huge fan, it’s just so hard to capture a culture gone to a culture moved on, at least in my dumb opinion. If anything, gives me an excuse to watch the original and appreciate that time in my limited life.
