If it wasn’t a first party game it wouldn’t have been given the marketing budget it did so it would’ve just came and went.

But first party games are meant for quality, the reason you buy a console in the first place. Nintendo and Sony understand this and make sure their stuff are bangers.

And I say that as an XBox user this gen lol. It’s only being used for third party games that can’t run on my old PC. My Switch sees more playtime.

So, this is bullshit, but it’s also a case of what if? I think Microsoft rushed Redfall out because of their major release gap, and if Bethesda was publishing it on their own, would it have gotten more time to cook?

  • _RM78

Yeah, nothing to do with the fact that the game is barely half baked and an insult to even the most broken releases of the recent past.

    Bellends, the lot of them.

  • Superb-Cry6801

To be honest if this game was from a small independent publisher, the game probably would have been released either with an early access tag on it, or the game would most likely release at $40 or close to that… or both.

First off that headline is wrong, he’s saying it wouldn’t get AS MUCH backlash.

Second I don’t agree with him but I also don’t disagree. I feel like a lot of the negativity I’ve seen on here have been from people who haven’t even played the game or from people who never cared about the game in the first place.

The amount of “Xbox trash” posts on this sub alone since launch has been abundant.

So I kinda agree with him.

Game is still hot garbage though.

    Beyond stupid take.

As a PlayStation gamer primarily I do actually feel bad though for Xbox fans they’ve had fuck all to justify buying an Xbox over a PlayStation since 2013.
Sure someone will chime in and say gamepass but if what your playing there is multi platform then that simply isn’t a big enough reason in my opinion despite how cost efficient it can be.

Microsoft owns most of the best shooter games franchises and western rpg developers and yet haven’t released anything truly great in a long time.
Tonight I was browsing gamepass on my nephews series S, and nearly all the good games there are either a couple years old or from the 360 era.
I just can’t see how they think that their core fans will be satisfied dropping £500 to play forza alone.

I think some of the hate is just bandwagon jumping at this point, but fundamentally the game was mediocre with bugs, and by the time the bugs are fixed the player bad will have moved on.

This really just deserved to be an ignored and forgotten game.

Wait Arkane made Redfall? Dishonoured and Prey Arkane? Cmon that’s just insulting considering what they’ve made prior.

  • 47-Alpha-Tango

Sometimes a game gets unfairly review bombed by fanboys of the other console. But sometimes a game is just bad and deserves the backlash.

  • Chongsu1496

Okay so hi-fi rush success or if starfield ends up being a hit ,it should not be attributed to microsoft since from what he said they are hands off bethesda . Got it

  • seventeenthskeptic

I go to r/gaming to experience gaming. I don’t have time to sit down and play games, so this is one way I keep in touch with games. Often, the posts I see are complaining about gaming. It’s really not useful or enjoyable to me. End rant.

  • Old_Employee_6535

Whoever wrote it must not have played red fall. That is something I am sure of. I love Arkane games but this one is a big miss.

  • Fathoms77

Baloney. A bad game is a bad game, and it will ALWAYS get flak. A lot of it.

Or have we already forgotten Cyberpunk, a multiplatform title?

  • online_republican

Arkane, the studio behind Dishonored, Prey and Deathloop getting a shiner over the release state of Redfall only because its part of Microsoft is…well its a take

  • GladiusLegis

Forspoken got at least as much backlash earlier this year, and it’s a Sony exclusive. What is he even talking about?

  • LetsGoChamp19

He kind of has a point. Indie and smaller game devs have lower expectations than big AAA devs

First party titles are supposed to be system sellers. Look at PS with Guerilla games, Insomniac, Santa Monica and Naughty Dog. When Microsoft release a mediocre at best first party game like Redfall, it’s going to get criticised more. It’s supposed to be Xbox’s answer to games like Horizon and God Of War but it couldn’t be further from the quality of those games

That being said, the game is just bad. Doesn’t matter who made it, it’s a 5/10 at best and deserves all the criticism it’s getting

  • LordPentolino

if it was a 20 bucks title instead of __70__, i could even give a little credit to this… but for the money it costs people would rightfully expect an AAA title, which this, sadly, is not.

  • Keffpie

I’m primarily a PS5-gamer but I own a Series X that is in my home office for streaming and to play games from Gamepass with friends. It’s a nice machine, and Game pass is crazy value, but… I tried Redfall and it struck me as a jankier, less polished Back 4 Blood – and that game was a moderately fun time in co-op, but not much more. That’s coming from a bona fide Arkane fanboy. I can’t believe it’s the same studio that did Dishonored and Deathloop.

  • Fun-Customer39

The only reason I’m okay with playing it is because of the fact it’s on gamepass, and I didn’t waste $70 on it. For anyone who did, I’m sorry you got scammed. The game plays and looks like a $15-$20 indie game

  • ElCoyote_AB

Says the company that has regularly released unfinished operating systems and a console with an over 30.% failure rate.

  • osound

Yes, if Redfall was a mobile game from an first-time developer that was free to play for all, it would probably receive less flak.

That’s not reality though, so I don’t even understand the point of this article.

It’s like saying that Lebron James would be criticized less for a subpar game if he was a 12-year-old who never played basketball before. No shit.

  • CaptainPotassium87

I think the game would be seeing the same reaction, but I think the doom and gloom about Microsoft comes out of a place of bias. Yes, it’s a bad game. No, it’s not the end of the world for Microsoft.
