Better fight scenes than 90% of modern action films. Locked off shot, wide angle lens, no rapid cutting.
I don’t recall it being bad in the first place.
However, I do find Secret of the Ooze more enjoyable to watch. In like an Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, and Gremlins 2 sorta way.
You ever see the all-black remake?

Better than the original.
No one who actually saw this it in theaters hated it (aka 10yo me in 1990). The only people who don’t like this movie are boomers that hated taking their kids to it in theaters (several times) and zoomers who hate their parents talk about how awesome it was.
Just rewarched. Still holds up.
Wait, hold on! People hate this movie? Everyone I know loves it!!!
I’m glad you mentioned the original comic.
What should also be said is that the comic was dark, gritty, violent and bloody!
Nothing at all like the watered-down cowabunga cutesy fucking bullshit they served to the kids later on.

Why do I care? I was so fucking furious with the animated cartoon at the time. Foolishly I was looking forward to more of the glorious bloody mayhem and what I got was that bullshit. Instead of slashing the bad guys to bits they put barrels over their heads and other childish nonsense.
Sure, I get it from a financial success POV. The kids version was where the money was at. But I still feel betrayed to this day.
It’s not better than I remember.
Because I remember it being fucking brilliant.
The part where the Turtles are fighting The Foot in the apartment and are losing, so they decide to chop through the floor with axes causing everyone to fall, is one of the most badass scenes in movie history.
You fight well… in the old style. But you’ve caused me enough trouble. Now you face: the Shredder.
This movie is the ultimate nostalgia bomb for me. Not only does it still hold up, almost perfectly, but it takes me right back to being a kid.
