Interesting, and i also enjoyed seeing that mint condition beetle just driving a about like a normal car instead of just a garage now adays.

I wonder how they created the tapes. I wonder if you would phone a number and they would play the instructions as you record it. Seemed like this version was designed for common preset routes.

I love how needlessly complicated it is. You can just pause after each instruction… But no, these madlads really did that.

I remember riding along with a friend of mine while he delivered newspapers at night/ early mornings. He would have a tape similar to this that noted each house on the route along with giving directions to make the route as quickly as possible. I thought it was pretty cool at the time, and I wondered how often they had to remake those cassettes for new customers/ removing old customers.

This intricate set that would never work in real life actually seems more plausible than a magic box the size of a cigarette box that connects wirelessly other computers flying on the orbit of the earth which are beaming time values to compute its position and speaks instructions using artificial voice produced by machine learning, while using maps delivered to it from another distant computers that have detailed maps for every single corner of the earth, no matter how distant.

Since it only records distance traveled, it would stop working the moment you made a wrong turn.

Kind of takes it back to the problem it originally brought up, directions that can’t adapt.
