Tolkien is the best.
Because they were recording “Hotel California”
Tolkien: “Fuck you, that’s why.”
Because the last thing you want is a medieval F-35 to be tempted by the ring.
Ahhhh. I always thought it was “Token”

This audio file ended too quickly.
Because then there wouldn’t be a story.
Isn’t it obvious though? I’ve only ever seen the movies a long time ago so maybe I’m missing something here.
The Eagles flew them out cause they already killed all the bad guys. If they flew them in they would have been seen by Sauron. What am I missing?
The eye is an OP anti missile/radar, it would be an easy insta-kill and a free ring
I am trying to figure out if this is real and all I can find are hundreds of explanations for why the eagles couldn’t fly Frodo to Mordor. I should mention I like the clever lore that explains what seems to be deus ex machina.
This is explained by Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring (the book, not the movie).
The eagles were on cooldown.
For everyone else who does not know:
That is not JRR Tolkien speaking. It’s a joke.
Oh, well, because they were busy doing eagle things.
Because the story wouldn’t have been as interesting, you clod. Just enjoy the masterpiece I wrote.
— Tolkien, probably
Who would’ve guessed that it’s the same reason that it’s easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts than to train astronauts to become oil drillers.
Dug around to find the explanation I gave last year in a deleted post on r/fantheories:
“The actual reason is as follows: Mount doom housed lavas yes but the actual thing that could create and smith the ring was a magical forge that had to be kick-started by Sauron himself. This was very deep within the mountain and was not exposed to the open air. The forge was called “the cracks of doom.” It was a big deal to fire this forge up and it took a very very long time and turning it off was also a big deal and Sauron had no inclination to turn it off as he needed it turned on to forge more rings. He just needed to get his one ring to finish the whole thing and the forces of a good did a great job of hiding the fact that they would destroy it. He was tricked by his own thinking that everyone wanted the ring to possess it as he did to control everything. Being evil, his mind was twisted and he could not see that it would be destroyed in order to win.
So it’s a simple matter of that you could not just drop the ring in and destroy it. It would take for more than lava to destroy it, it would take a magical forge such as the maker had created in the first place. And it took cunning and wise planning by the likes of Gandalf to pull the whole thing off.
The entire thought that you could just fly in on the back of an eagle and drop it into some lava and destroy it reveals a total misunderstanding of the real story itself and a total Hollywood take on the epic.”
There’s more in the thread of the [original post](https://old.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/comments/qghs8h/deleted_by_user/).
Get that weak-ass bird shit out of here!

The numbero uno reason that the eagles didn’t fly them: because then the book would be like 10 pages. Enjoy the journey.
Or this take on it 🙂

It’s not Tolkien. Just a shit skit.
My answer to this question is always the same: Because they didn’t have to.
They didn’t fly on the eagles because Tolkien hated airplanes
