Rapinoe with a horrific showing in her final WC game. Those corners after being subbed in, and then that PK? Tough scene.
Previously, the US has at worst gotten 3rd place in the WC. This is a big drop for them.
The USA had early mover advantage in women’s soccer, but now many other countries have caught up in the past few years and the USA has stagnated. Their reign of dominance is over and it will be a tough fight for them to reclaim the Women’s World Cup with how good countries like England, France, Spain, Japan, and Netherlands are all looking in women’s soccer.
Well we have stunk it up this WC. Hopefully this is a kick in the ass to shape up the program like the Athens Olympics for the US MBB team was.
3 goals in 4 games, all of which came in the first game. Up 3-2 to start PK and then the only person to hit after that for us was the GK. They are gonna get roasted for this.

I knew Rapinoe was gonna whiff it as soon as I saw how shitty she played after being brought on. She was dragging her feet and looked like she didn’t want to be there.
Morgan should have never come off. Fire the coach. Sophia smith gets a pass on the PK because she’s young and played her ass off all game.

Good. This team was complacent, this coach was hardheaded, and this disaster has been looming since the olympic botch job. Maybe now we can bury this walking corpse of a team and get something new built up.
The age of the us winning games based on depth and superior conditioning is over. There is no outmuscling a team anymore. You have to win on tactics and on the ability to finish. USA lacked both and paid the price. Sweden did not threaten at all, played to not lose, and was fortunate enough to have their keeper wake up on the good side of the bed. Not a terrific strategy, but when your opponent cant punish you for not pressing harder you come out ahead.
The clock was always ticking and it’s finally struck midnight. Hopefully us soccer actually does some soul searching and makes some changes, the first one being to write vladko a ticket back to macedonia.
If we could somehow find a way to stop rostering washed up national team legends, that would be great. We constantly do this. Abby wambach and christie rampone in 2015 didnt need to be there. Carli lloyd got a seat on the plane in 2019 when she was utterly spent. This time it was rapinoe. Everyone always talking about “veteran presence,” veteran presence means jack shit when you have grandma legs. Ertz was a veteran presence. Dunn was a veteran presence. Rapinoe was an absolute joke, and its an indictment of the entire process that she was able to con her way onto this team and into 2 huge games. That decision alone is enough for me to have no faith whatsoever in vladko. O’hara as well, no need for her to see the pitch at all. Lynn williams could have taken a penalty, or just leave morgan on and she can put it in. Just an out and out sham from the coach.

Terrible showing. Rapinoe was awful. Some decent chances but doesn’t matter if you can’t finish. Let’s get a coach in there that knows what they’re doing.

I’d like to at least recognize our own goal keeper for having a good game. And she scored the PK which was badass. She can hold her head up with pride even if some of her teammates might not.
Too individualistic from a team that inherently has always relied on better individual athleticism and talent. The world has gotten significantly better.
All 4 games, any time a player was near the 18, they looked to shoot first. Always, even from terrible angles. The severely lacking attacking prowess in the final third was the downfall of this team.
Kind of hilarious after such an arrogant run of commercials in the lead up to the World Cup with the whole “how can anyone stop us?” thing.
Remember the South Park episode where all the people huff their own farts and love it? This team will be much better once about half of them are replaced by hungry young talent, not players more concerned about other things
