The Dollop episode on this guy is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
Being from Philadelphia myself. This man is a Pennsylvania boy if I ever saw one.
This is my kind of dude.
Was being easily distracted by toys, puppies and fire engines a part of his act, a result of his drinking, or some kind of mental illness?
So he was autistic or something
Who can blame the guy for getting distracted by puppies, come on man
Maybe he was the inspiration for Lenny from of mice and men
Where is this man movie? Babe Ruth was great, but this guy seems more entertaining.
Tim Robinson playing him in a biopic would be so entertaining and they look like twins!
Read “The Glory of Their Times” for some excellent turn-of-the-century old-timey baseball stories coming ight from the mouth’s of those who lived them. A treasure of a book.
today this is called autism
he was also a big fan of tater tots
I mean I would to get distracted by puppies
Sociopath? Jeez, I don’t think that word means what that chap thinks it does.
what a rube
Sadly died at 37 from tuberculosis.
I mean, who isn’t distracted by puppies?
What documentary is this from? Almost has a Ken Burns feel.
Puppies and fire trucks. Holy shit I think my son is the reincarnation of him
homie was 10000000% autistic
edit: i am a caregiver for an autistic man who is both obsessed with dogs and emergency vehicle sirens
I call Tim Robinson to play him in a biopic. Would be amazing.
“The Sousepaw” is a fucking hilarious nickname
“He *is* the most interesting man the world”
from his wiki…
According to baseball historian Lee Allen in The American League Story, Waddell began the 1903 season sleeping in a firehouse at Camden, New Jersey, and ended it tending bar in a saloon in Wheeling, West Virginia. In between those events, he won 22 games for the Philadelphia Athletics; toured the nation in a vaudeville play called The Stain of Guilt; courted, married, and became separated from May Wynne Skinner of Lynn, Massachusetts; saved a woman from drowning; accidentally shot a friend through the hand; and was bitten by a lion.[8] His performance in The Stain of Guilt was notable in that his co-stars, who had realized that he was incapable of memorizing his lines, allowed him to improvise his lines for every show; the play was critically acclaimed and was much discussed for a scene in which Waddell lifted the actor playing the villain and threw him across the stage with ease
Rube Waddell ended up being one of the best pitchers in my most recent save of OOTP
