Featuring my grandfather and his sister with their peers at the time. Today Dove Street is a Bougie part of the city but post war it was classed as a slum. This photo turned up over the weekend of my Nan’s (grandma’s) 80th birthday and my grandfather quipped the kids in the first three rows where their because they were the kids who owned a pair of shoes. Another favourite story is the fighting between him, his two brothers and their sisters boyfriend over who’s girlfriend got to sit in the one chair they owned.
Interesting looking at each one of their faces and ponder what they might be thinking about.
