I worked freelance on a buzzfeed show for a few weeks and it was pretty enjoyable. Pay wasn’t great, but I needed to fill a gap in my schedule and it fit. Plus the show was fun and I negotiated the job to be WFH before that really became a thing. I’d go to the office once a week to get a drive and then pretty much set my own schedule. It was good for my work/life balance and the people I worked with were really nice. Anyway, I hope they all found jobs they’re happy with now.
TLDW?
This video made me realise that I haven’t heard or even thought of Buzzfeed in years now
2015…thats about when I felt the clickbait strat take hold and avoided the site. Go figure!
The last answer will shock you!
It’s gone? That’s no great loss.
It’s still a website right? Just no more TV programs.
Because they promised me 20 awkward love scenes tomorrow and I’m trying to be patient here
That shit was always absolute trash. Clickbait, virtue signaling, and insulting to our intelligence. Good fucking riddance.
I hope ladbible is next.
Can’t wait to hear what Ryan and Shane have to say what working on Buzzfeed was like.
I am an independent photographer. Buzzfeed stole my photos countless times and never once honored a takedown request. Fuck em.
Jesus, working there sounds like an absolute nightmare.
I’m amazed they were allowed to openly advertise for positions with the company with preference for non-white, non-males. I’m sure it’s been said a thousand times, but could you imagine if CNN said “We’re hiring writers. If you’re black or have a disability, we’ll still look at your application, but it won’t be seriously considered, because we believe you belong in the garbage. If you’re black, go write for JET.”
At 11 seconds, the stock price graph is very deceptive where a drop of 56% is shown to look more like 98%. Didn’t watch any more that that.
Ryan: *”As we delve into the question of ‘are BuzzFeed legit?'”*

Shane: *Shakes head.*
buzzfeed basically got into news and gave up on clickbait nonsense. The just bought out huffpost. They want to be taken seriously in news space which i dont think will ever happen at least under the buzz feed name. You can see even many of their newer video are just light hearted fluff news videos
Buzzfeed news actually does some very in depth reporting. Here is an example of them being more in-depth than the NY Times:
The NY Times story: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/climate/cdc-climate-change.html
The story from Buzzfeed: (And I’ll add that the NY Times never wrote a correction for this story.)
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/zahrahirji/cdc-whistleblower-george-luber-investigation
The Buzzfeed version is legit…
Well that went out with a whimper, I didn’t even notice!
Buzzfeed’s entire business model for years was just ripping off reddit posts
fucking newsweek is still doing that shit
Now do Star Trek: Discovery
Pretty insufferable to watch a video of a dude and half the time he’s unnecessarily reading YouTube comments like primary source material.
Generally agree with it though and interesting to learn about why they’ve fallen out of prominence.
I remember I swore off anything a Buzzfeed when they came out with that “X questions for white people”.
Man, i’m fairly interested in this topic but I refuse to click on a video with that picture as the ad. Are you kidding me?
Who would have ever thought that routinely insulting a massive chunk of your audience would ever lead to this?
Death? Buzzfeed is still up and running.
12 reasons that lead to the death of Buzzfeed. Number 7 will shock you!
