This is one of those classics that has probably been on the internet longer than half of reddit has been alive. I’m pretty sure it at least predates the acquisition of Youtube by Google, and might even predate Youtube entirely.
Well I’m 51 an this is the first time I’ve stumbled into them (thanks OP) and I fell down an hour or so rabbit hole watching and laughing my wife awake! Thanks OP!
What song is this?
Classical
[Rachmaninov and other composers’ hands explained.](https://old.reddit.com/r/classicalmusic/comments/3fipli/hands_according_to_composers_final_version/)
Just Respekt
Have piano keys always been the same size?
Anyone else thinking how hilarious it would have been if the guy behind him would have handed him the wrong piece for the final stroke?
I play piano, and I learned this prelude when I was a junior in high school. It’s honestly not a big-hands kind of piece to play and is the most entertaining thing I ever played, from a player’s standpoint… but this video was still fun and funny to watch. That reminds me… The world could use a new Victor Borge.
(Also, I watch classical piano videos all the time, and this is the first time I’m seeing this video. So thanks for posting it.)
What a great personality in a phenomenal piano player!!
Victor Borge vibes.
César Franck too.
but only small hands…
**Nice very attractive**
For those wondering, this is Igudesman And Joo – a little nightmare music
All their bits are like this. They’re both incredibly talented.
I’m the opposite – big hands, but no musical ability.
I really enjoyed this.
I’ve seen them live before, and got to meet them and go to dinner afterward. They were really kind and just as funny and goofy in real life as they are on stage!!
I used to hang out with Rachmaninov and we used to play a game where I had to guess how many basketballs he was holding in his hand. And it be like eight or so.
Immediately knew which piece was going to be played. I remember trying to learn this song when I was younger and grappling with the massive range for the left handed part. It was written like you should be able to reach it without moving your hand, but there was no way I was able to do that.
Wood MIDI!
I feel for this. When I was a kid, my parents forced me into piano lessons. I enjoyed it at first, but quickly had issues because my hands were physically incapable of stretching for some of the chords. I was just told “try harder” and yelled at. Loved music at that age, but was just turned off by that experience.
Was Rachmaninov good at fighting?
Rachmaninov supposedly commented that if he ever went to hell, this Prelude would be playing.
Bit would have been better if the assistant had played it straight instead of the distracting bumbling guy schtick. Perhaps a moment of subtle shock/confusion at the really long stick. That was great. The penis gag at the end was pretty unnecessary. Anyway, there’s my inner directorial monologue if anybody gave a shit.
TIL by seeing this silly video that Charles Mingus, in his [All the things you C#](https://youtu.be/_Rh3xsKjQZM) actually meshed this tune up
