Kind of seems like a strange coincidence that this is happening right before The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is released 🤔

Nintendo is like a spoiled, unstable, tantrum-throwing child. Their grotesque, lawyeristic overreach and anti-consumer practices are really unacceptable. So glad I switched to Steam Deck and don’t purchase their games anymore.

Would it be bad if streamers just stopped playing Nintendo games? If Nintendo is that serious about attacking people who play or talk about their games maybe it is better to just avoid their games publicly.

I initially posted these comments on r/nintendo, but the video was removed from that sub.

To me, the most worrying thing that’s going on here is the selectivity of what is and isn’t still up. If you watched the video, you might assume that Nintendo took down all of PointCrow’s modded BotW videos, plus a few unaltered ones to send a message. But videos such as “Modding Breath of the Wild to be as realistic as possible” and “Custom Dungeons in Breath of the Wild are INSANE” and many more are still (as of the posting of this video) up. Now, I don’t have the means to discover which videos were taken down to draw any conclusions as to what set them apart, but I do know that none of the videos that featured the multiplayer mod are still up. Anyways, to get to the actual point, Nintendo picking and choosing which videos to strike is a worrying precedent. I’m worried about a future in which companies would use vague or contradictory ToS/CCG to strike down videos that are critical while allowing positive reviews to remain unchallenged.

To be absolutely clear: I do NOT have any evidence that this has ever or will ever happen. If you think this sounds like a ‘slippery slope’ argument, you are absolutely correct and I applaud your instincts regarding logical fallacies. However, I liked this particular slippery slope a lot better when it had guardrails, and I think that there are enough business incentives at play here that we should at least be aware that the slope exists.

Nintendo isn’t the biggest problem here.

Tons of companies constantly attack youtube videos.

The big problem here is youtube catering to their borderline illegal demands.

don’t make nintendo videos. don’t play their games, don’t talk about their games.

    (if you’re a content creator)

  • wtfburritoo

Nintendo’s a shitty company that operates like they’re still in Feudal Japan. This is just the most blatant of their shitty behavior.

I love Nintendo, they make phenomenal games and hardware, but god almighty their community relations is some of the worst I’ve ever seen.

  • TheGeckomancer

Can we please all just give nintendo what they want and everyone stop streaming their content so that they have no promotional content and their sales plummet?

Carlsagan42, Ryukahr, and PointCrow are the only reason new people are still buying mario maker games.

  • CruffTheMagicDragon

Anyone playing Nintendo games for their job is playing with fire. This isn’t new from Nintendo; been going on for years

Copied from my post in the videos subreddit: Back in 2017 I made a timelapse video of me 3D modelling a Nintendo Wii. They took the video down within a couple hours and it took weeks to get it back up. The video only ever got 24 views and was low quality to start with. I had already heard about their behaviour prior to making that video but was surprised how brazenly they would go after anything Nintendo related even from a channel nobody watches. I haven’t bought anything from Nintendo since as they have no respect for their fans. I cannot support a company that gives everyone the middle finger and thinks they can do whatever they please.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills in this thread. This seems pretty open and shut. He modded/streamed a pirated copy of a game. Nintendo doesn’t want people advertising pirated versions of their game. That really isn’t a wild concept.

  • andremiles

Who is surprised by this? Nintendo always did this and they will continue doing it. Content creators need to stop giving their games free ads.

  • Gabimanaver

It’s as if Nintendo thinks that if they remove every nintendo game video on youtube, people will buy their games instead of just watching others play it for free. It’s insanity that Nintendo still doesn’t get that all these nintendo game videos are a) free advertisement and b) spreads the name of the game. It’s 100% certaint that they would make much more money by letting people show off their games freely rather then remove every video of people playing it.

#Nintendo is not a good company. I thought this was clear *every other time they have done this and will do it again*

  • Cella91

It’s like Nintendo lives in the past with their business practices, dealing with the internet and their hardware. It’s almost impressive how far behind they are in general.

  • Neoxite23

I’m so glad I gave up on Nintendo decades ago. Nintendo has like 3 good unique IPs and even a lot of those are just the same as the last installment.

Plus the fact their games are NEVER on sale. You can get the same game on other consoles if it’s a 3rd party game cheaper and in better quality.

  • pickledgreatness

I know Nintendo hasn’t gone after every moding video out there, but they’ve always taken a hard stance against people modding their software. How does PointCrow think he’s staying within Nintendo’s guidelines when he’s posting videos of modded games?

  • Akazury

Except he hasn’t remained within Nintendo Guidelines. He has modded multiple games and made videos around that. It basically has cast a shadow of doubt on all of his content. There’s no way to tell whether a u modded version was used to create xyz content, and we all know Nintendo does not take chances.

  • Space-Debris

There’s nothing surprising about this takedown. BotW user agreement says “don’t mod this”. He modded it, streamed it, made it available to others. 99% of you in here are delusional.
