I remember a few years ago when I built a service for generating unique alphanumeric ID numbers that a user could manually type, so GUIDs were too long and we didn’t want them to be pattern-based, so not sequential. We generated billions of IDs ahead of time for fast retrieval and guarantee of uniqueness. We also stored dictionaries of the top x languages, including slang terms. We scanned our database and eliminated every entry with any known word in those languages. It shrank the database by a pretty large % and we had to add another digit. But in the end, we had a list of billions of short, unique character strings that didn’t contain a known word in any language. All of that to avoid this precise situation.
