One of my favorite TV shows. I wish it had gotten more attention. Only reason I even found out about it was because I searched Amazon originals worth watching, and of course the show had ended a long time ago by then. At least the final season does serve as a pretty satisfying series finale even though there were more storylines left to tell.

Leslie’s constant annoyance with John was pretty hilarious and cool.

I loved when they started talking about piping, I have no idea if what they say is making sense it just sounds great

I’m no doubt talking to Patriot fans here.

This is why I’m ok with not getting more. The ending we have right now is probably one of the greatest endings to a show ever, for me anyway. If I were reading that story as a book and it ended there, it would be a perfect place to leave the story. Depending on the reader ie viewer, you can choose to believe whatever you want about where it goes next. That’s a rare thing. Usually you’re just spoon fed a dumb wrap up.

Then there’s the neat fact that as it is, it fits really neatly into the notion of ‘Halfway and one step’.

There are 18 chapters. The first season has ten chapters, the second season has eight. The halfway point in 18 chapters is chapter 9. The first season goes halfway and one step to chapter ten before the huge tonal change of season two with the new intro and the increased fuzzy first person perspective. I don’t know if that was intentional, but if it wasn’t it’s a pretty good coincidence.

Also notice that the songs in the show go from being played by John in the real world on his acoustic guitar, to being completely in his head embellished with a full band.

I think at this point if we got more it would be a Godfather Part III situation. An unnecessary addendum that comes too late and only takes away from what made the first two parts great.

I do recommend Perpetual Grace LTD, Conrad’s show after Patriot. It was clearly made from a bunch of ideas that would have been Patriot season 3 in a different setting.

The how to knock a woman unconscious with a bicycle is the best bit of this.

Such a great, hilarious yet depressing show.

My favorite comedic scene from any show ever is when he has to take the grocer’s gun. So amazing, but it probably isn’t anywhere near as funny if you haven’t watched the show.

    Another voice in the choir:

This show is fantastic. A really unique experience (leaving out other Steve Conard shows).
