My grandpa, circa 1940. He grew up poor and ran off with the circus as a boxer before joining the military and fighting in WWII and Korea. He was the most stoic man I ever knew, but he made each of his grandkids feel sure that he loved them the most. I know I did.

There is something about that pic which really captures him. The look, the clothes, the way he carries himself. Gravitas is the word that comes to mind. I wish I had half his charisma.
