Secret of NIMH.
Interestingly, this was the first animated movie released by Don Bluth.. who left Disney with a bunch of other animators in the late 70s to make their own movies.
They wound up making other such greats as An American Tale, Fievel Goes West, and the Land Before Time.
This convinced Disney who’s animated productions had been suffering since the 1970s to reinvest in animated films.. and ushered in the Disney Renaissance with films like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and the Lion King.

I was rolling with “Welcome Back Kotter” back in 1982. 2nd grade at McKinley Elementary, Westfield NJ.
FYI: the book was called “Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of NIMH” and the movie was just called “The Secret of NIMH.”

First, a HUGE thanks to everyone who helped identify her lunchbox as The Secret of Nimh! Neither of us have seen the movie – but based on the amount of comments about the nostalgia it seems to be bringing people, we are very interested now!
