My 3x great grandfather Anton Beyer around 1900. He was born in Bavaria, arrested in Buffalo for an illegal gas lamp selling operation, fled to Pittsburgh after chasing a social worker with a shovel or ax, and ended up in the Allegheny Hospital for the Insane.

To be clear, he died in 1921 at age 74 in the Allegheny Hospital for the Insane after being hit over the head to subdue him according to family history. His death certificate merely says he died from senile psychosis aka dementia but is stamped with the hospital’s name.
What a terrible story,insane hospital were a nightmare.
