I used to work in a bakery and the first Christmas I worked there they sent us stollen breads. A customer walked up to the register and asked “Is that stollen?” and pointed to the loaves. I blinked, confused.

    “Um…no we baked it.”

    “No, I mean stollen *bread*.”

    “We…haven’t done anything…”

Luckily my coworker interjected and dealt with the customer. 😂 I felt so freakin’ dumb.

It’s actually pronounced sht not st. And Theo is short because of the double l. The joke might only work in English, I’m sorry.

It’s a famous German Christmas bread (baked in summer, perfect around Christmas and than it can be stored until Easter). But we wouldn’t actually call it a bread. You mostly get it in eastern Germany and in Dresden. It’s sweet and not exactly soft and rather crumbly. The traditional Stollen is with raisins so there are variations with poppy seeds for example. Tastes very good with butter and jam or just plain and dipped in coffee. If you can get one don’t hesitate it’s great!

If I buy Stollen bread, would I be an accomplice? Or a second hand victim?

Also, I don’t care, because I’m eating Stollen (which is soooooo good)
