Here is the entire made-for-TV movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67GQrmY59rg
I’m actually watching the movie right now while “working” from home and watching my toddler run around
Hey mom can we stop for ‘HEAT’?
That’s fascinating.
People will say “the movie is so much better because of the stars” but watching something like this sort of hints at just how having established personalities as your stars really affects the “feel” of a scene.
Despite all the polish and “acting” that goes on in the film, I almost feel like this scene from the show feels more “real” somehow.
This isn’t arguing that the show is better, of course, especially considering that Mann’s work is very much not about realism as much as a hyperrealism.
Thanks for posting that.
I keep expecting [Wayne to pop up and ask for some better actors](https://youtu.be/yluZgzkA8MM?t=68) and the stagehand ushers in Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro to perform the scene again.
watched it. pretty low production values! but a must for true fans
[Also, the sequel is out now (it’s a novel).](https://www.amazon.com/Heat-2-Novel-Michael-Mann/dp/0062653318/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1BKEORGY47AQI&keywords=michael+mann+book&qid=1660155730&sprefix=michael+mann%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-1)
The Heat is a basketball team lol, not a tv show. Pretty sure it was an expansion team they made for Lebron
Seems like it’s only WARM
Once the music cue kicks in I’m reminded that Mann was also heavily involved in Miami Vice. I wonder what it would be like if he had made the film with Hannah being played by Don Johnson? I kind of want to watch this for Michael Rooker, maybe he plays Chris, the character that Val Kilmer plays? Anyway Heat is a masterpiece and I’m glad Mann got the chance to remake it on his terms.
The movie scene to me is so much better because they don’t just stare at each other testing each other’s machismo. They have an admiration. They point out weaknesses in each other and have looking points for different emotions, they demonstrate vulnerability
Not a TV Show. It was a TV movie
An episode of Netflix’s Voir series details the different cinematic techniques of the two side by side.
The episode is called Film vs Television. I believe it was done by the people who used to do the “Every Frame a Painting” channel on Youtube, so it is very well done.
If you want even more Heat feelings by Mann, watch [Robbery Homicide Division](https://youtu.be/GynPvTQC_20](https://youtu.be/GynPvTQC_20), the whole series is on Youtube, and the main theme is by Deltron 3030!
I love that, when he got the big money, he just thought: “man i could redo that TV-film I made a while ago” and made a damn flawless masterpiece
How were you able to make this post if you didn’t know about the show?
Now show the part where that guy says “SHE’S GOT A **GREAT** ASS!”
Watching this acting vs what we got in the Heat movie feels a lot like the Wayne’s World 2 scene where they swap in Charlton Heston…
I watched LA Takedown on TV when I was kid, or at least the first half before I had to go to bed.
Years later, in college I saw Heat, and I started getting serious deja vu as the entire beginning of the story seemed exactly like the beginning of LA Takedown.
Me and my film loving friends were sort of in a “spot the rip off” hunt. The whole “Res. Dogs is a rip off of City on Fire” or “Pulp Fiction took a whole scene from a Scorsese documentary” articles were circulating around. I tried to write one about how Michael Mann made the same movie twice, but no film magazine took it (it was just pitched randomly via snail mail, shit worked different back then).
Anyway, it’s now common knowledge on Reddit, so at least I feel vindicated.
Have to watch the movie now to unsee this.
I thought this got brought up nearly everytime someone wrote about the movie.
