Was it though? People thought it was pretty good at the time, they still speak of it when they reminisce about OG Bioware titles. The only issue is that some of the stuff hasn’t aged well which makes it difficult to enjoy today.

I think it’s just been long enough, and overshadowed by Bioware’s more recent stuff, that it just doesn’t come up in conversation very often.

It was definitely a great game, and likely made a life-long Bioware fan out of me, but since it was a one-shot quite some time ago you’d have a hard time finding people more interested in talking about Jade Empire than, say, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, or even KOTOR.

I remember it being rated pretty highly. I don’t think it was under-rated. However, it certainly wasn’t as popular as it should be.

I feel like a lot of people don’t know what “underrated” means.

I swear there’s a bunch of bots out there that just grab a random popular game image and say “XYZ was such an underrated gem!”

One of the only games where I immediately started another game as soon as I finished it. I did my evil playthrough and dove right in with my good playthrough. I always wanted a sequel but unfortunately we never got it. Just recently picked it the physical game and was telling my wife all about and all I got was a paltry “cool” lol

No, it really wasn’t underrated. It was critically acclaimed at the time of its release. And is constantly on top of best Xbox game lists.

My favorite quest was when you come to the imperial city, and there’s this obnoxious Englishman just being a massive dick to everyone, and you have to convince him to shut up.

So it starts with a “debate”, where you try to argue the strengths of your culture, and he just preens about the superiority of Western Civilization. And the judges all claim to be impartial and balanced, but they each hint that their fellow judges are “less intellectual” than them, and will fold if you present a certain argument. So you eventually learn that they’re all lousy at being intellectual judges, and play to their weaknesses to win the debate.

Then you fight the Englishman, who insists on bringing *a fucking gun* to the fight. Just crazy all the way down.

I still can’t get over the threesome romance. That was the biggest surprise I got when that part came around.
