Personally The Battle/Chase scene with the fat dragon was our favorite.
Hard to choose between that and every single scene with Hugh Grant. The five questions to the corpses bit was great too. Fantastically fun movie all-around.
I really enjoyed the 1980’s cartoon easter egg. Did a double-take and had to rewind to watch that scene again. However, I wish Uni made an appearance as well.
Graveyard scene was the best for me
This was the one that made me laugh the hardest, but god the whole movie was pretty great.
Honestly, I’m not a D&D player/fan , but I felt like this whole movie was fucking amusing to hilarious. It’s insane to me how poorly it’s performing and makes me really bummed that it likely won’t get a sequel. I don’t know if it was just terrible timing (Mario Movie) or people didn’t want to give it a chance because of the terrible past attempts of making a D&D movie, but it really sucks to see this movie failing so hard.
The two prison escape attempts did it for me. Poor Jarnathan…
The scene when Xenk Yendar was parting ways with the main characters and started walking off then Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez’s characters started commenting on how he walks in such a straight line. But oh wait uh oh there’s a rock, will he go around it? Nope walks right over it 🤣
Is Chris Pine beginning to morph into Pierce Brosnan?

One of the best films I’ve seen in recent years. I’m not a DnD fan but a ARPG player, I find it hilarious, entertaining and well-executed. The film deserves better.

5 questions were the funniest
DM: Rolls dice. Smiles. “Your foot is stuck in the pavement; some bricks have come loose, and you stepped in the hole. Roll for Dex…”
Player1: Rolls dice fail.
DM: Smiles. “As you try to sneak thru the entrance, you find that you cannot get unstuck. Roll for Wis…”
Player1: Rolls dice; fail.
DM: Smiles. “You panic, and your spell goes awry…”
Player1: Groans aloud.
DM: Looks at other players. “Well, what do you do?”
Last time I laughed at the cinema so loud was when watching the news scene with Steven Carell in ‘Bruce Almighty’ in 2003
This movie was so good and the only thing I know about D&D is from the 80s cartoon. So far it’s my favorite of the year – nothing better than a movie making you smile from ear to ear the whole time and not expecting it going in.
The bridge scene, for me.
My favourite part is when the Paladin is in it. He is the most Paladin that has ever Paladin. Truly a Paladin of all time.
Enjoyed the movie thoroughly, saw it in the theaters and just purchased it for home streaming. Definitely worth watching.
The speak with the dead was probably the scene that got the most chuckles. Also enjoyed the paladin, the dry humor was subtlety amusing.
This scene and the one where Xenk Yendar just keeps walking completely straight were pretty funny.
Minor annoyance was that everyone apparently was on lvl 20.

My buddy liked the paladin walking. Laughed for like ten minutes.
“Uh oh. He’s got a dilemma”
I mean the concept of guards being so easily distracted and entertained by a sudden performance is so funny and pure d&d logic from the get. Great writing.
This was a great portrayal of “concentration” in game.
The sorcerer lost his concentration after his foot got stuck and his spell started dying.
The use of concentration throughout the movie was wonderful, and it shows that the writers gave a shit about the source material, which is the reason so many adaptations fail
I would love a director’s commentary-like feature for this movie where the rolls for each character and the DM’s rolls are displayed during the movie.
Do I have to know how to play D&D to enjoy this movie?
Funnily enough, the part that made my husband and I laugh the most was the scene where they got into the hole and are instantly shown at the bottom. I cannot tell you how long and how contrary my dm makes simple “slide on a rope into a hole” take. Omg an hour by itself. Not kidding. Someone always falls and about dies. Queue the short rests.
Off topic but so nice to see something filed on location. That whole set looks awesome.
For someone who has never played D&D, is this movie still good to watch or will I miss out on some obvious jokes or something?
I really hope this movie (Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) gets a sequel.
The problem is that this movie is right on the cusp of success/failure. THe budget is $150m and it’s made $200m…but you generally have to make 1.5-2x to be a success. It’s not going to hit $300.
That said, there are some mitigating factors: Hasbro kicked in half the production budget in anticipation of moving more D&D books, so they inherently expect a revenue stream outside of the box office. They also had some ad tie-ins (mostly with Old Spice) to offset some budget. And it’s a different era; we’re still nowhere near pre-pandemic theater numbers, so streaming revenue is going to make up much more of the calculation.
The fact that all the analysts said that it “beat expectations” make me optimistic. Granted, it can still do better than expected but still lose money, but still.
My gut says that this will be successful enough to warrant a sequel, but they’ll chop the budget.
What angered me the most about the movie was there was no post credits scene where the actors were all sitting around a table in a basement with Hugh grant as DM, saying “Ok, so next Thursday good for everyone?” And then everyone doing all “ooh I have meeting I have to be at, what about Friday” “I’ve got a thing Friday what about Wednesday” etc
Would have made everything 100% perfect
