Scatman Crothers from “The Shining” is the black man
Chico, don’t be discouraged, you know the man is hard to understand.
This show, Sanford & Son, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Mod Squad, and even All in the Family–it was an interesting time in broadcast TV. It was sort of backlash to the previous years of white-bread shows like Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, Leave it to Beaver, Bewitched, Beverly Hillbillies, etc.
What? No ‘Sugarbritches’???
I recall that on TV but I was too young to bother with the show.
I remember loving this show, even though I was four when it went off the air. So there had to be something I liked about it, because surely much of the humor went over my head.
Chico. Don’t be discouraged….
Grandpa Joe?
“Not my yob, man”.
Looking good
Great show!
I get so sad and happy seeing anything about Chico and the Man now I understand the backstory but people piss now on diversity and representation in shows right?
This shit hit me as a kid from the Deep South. This and this PBS special on the civil rights movement fucking changed my life in terms of not just tolerance of other cultures and all but a realization of walking a step in someone else’s shoes right?
I am old 53 year old white dude but empathy is later in life after a young life of seeing only bigotry is as learned as the hatred of prejudice. If you want people all people to live together then it has to be communicated and shown.
Sorry not sure if I make sense but this show touched me.
Always liked Scatman and Della Reese.
