Apparently Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirou Watanabe once made a low-budget live-action short, based on the style of the anime. And it definitely slaps harder than the Netflix adaptation, in terms of mood and feel.

Ohh it slaps for sure.
The level of slappage during this little snippet was off the charts.
I think the saddest part for the Netflix version is that we can watch it and tell ourselves, “Hell, even I could do better job than this…” and that’s all I ever ask of my entertainment, be smarter than me and bring me joy.
I get that everyone loves to hate on the Netflix adaptation but nothing about this really “slapped” IMO. If anything it kinda flopped.. The mood was B-Grade AF and the feel was cringe. There I said it.
so boring.
the netflix version was trash.
this was like a free netflix version.
the script nearly put me to sleep.
that “no lanugage” joke was funny , almost funny for about 4 seconds.
then they tried to milk it 8 more times.
no. lame.
It do be slapping fr fr no cap
The mood and feel of this is of a student film.
Nice! 👍
Thanks for sharing, Space Cowboy. ✌😃
Bang.

Slaps? Really?
Hmmmmm, to each their own. This was not very good lol
Dunno what all the hate is about.
For a five minute short made by the original director, it struck all the chords.
Running gags, noir effects, dramatic shots. If was all there. Folks decrying this don’t know what the fuck they’re taking about.
Slaps? Maybe; but it definitely conveys the Cowboy Bebop feel imo.
Not at all.
Dude this was really bad.
Definitely bad, but mostly because the acting and budget are low level, but conceptually — shot-wise and the beats and music (despite the narrative also being pretty dumb) — it’s definitely more akin to the anime than the show.
With a better budget, better actors, and something like a shot for shot remake of the original story telling of bebop, the tone *could* work. Hard to pull off but definitely worth a try moreso than what they ended up with.
Apparently Watanabe watched the Netflix show and couldn’t get through a single scene due to how bad it was.
Man, I rewatched the Netflix version and its actually not that bad, def compared to the other crap on there. I hope it finds a new home or life somewhere else.
CB is such a classic. I think everyone’s expectation was way too high in the first place.
it looks and feels like Desperado with Cheech and Banderas.
There is a distinct lack of a or b roll. Everything is a very static shot with poor sound effects.
Mutters under his breath, “I actually liked the Netflix adaption.”
Yo that slow motion cuckoo thing was pretty funny. The best part about this whole thing was the shootout.
The guy’s English and French were so good, I’m not 100% certain he’s native French! Usually, when an actor is asked to speak more than one language in a film, they always butcher at least one of them in spite of the language training.
I suspect his Mandarin was intentionally butchered with an English accent for the film, but I don’t know because I don’t speak Mandarin.
Spicy take: I enjoyed the Netflix adaptation. It did something different with the source material and I liked it and wanted to see more.
only slap i hear is this hitting the floor
Look,… I’m no fan of the Netflix version of Cowboy Bebop but this OP is completely delusional or disingenuous. This doesn’t slap harder but rather stinks just as bad. Good try though. Hope you got the Karma you were looking for.
The Netflix Cowboy Bebop sucked, but so does this. Maybe just a little bit less. Maybe.
It would be great if it had english subtitles that worked… I couldn’t follow anything.
I’m confused, why is this in chinese?
This is fun and all, but the live- action outclasses this in more ways than one..
I liked it; very Cowboy beepop feel
It felt like Bebop but the quality of it wasn’t that great
