The line is, “Gee our old LaSalle ran great. “
There is another verse to this song:
*Everybody seemed content,
$50 paid the rent,
Freaks were in a circus tent,
Those were the days!*
The theme song here was written by well-known writers Charles Strouse (the writer of “Annie” ) and Lee Adams, who collaborated on the writing of “Bye, Bye Birdie.” The stars of “All In The Family,” (1971-79), Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton sang the tune while seated at the piano, while Jean herself played.
The tune was updated throughout the series, notably in Jean‘s exaggerated singing and the added verse, but also in the last line at the end. The song played at the end of each episode, (“Remembering You”), featured lyrics written by Carroll O’Connor.
The series featured several different characters that were later “spun off” to other series, such as “Good Times,” “The Jeffersons,” “Maude,” “Checkin’ In,” and ”Gloria,” and “Archie Bunker’s Place.”
I never got to watch this show growing up. They started playing 4 episodes every Sunday night on MeTV a few weeks ago and I decided to finally take the plunge and watch the whole series from the beginning. I love it so far.
She could actually sing just fine but tried to sing badly for comedy.
Finished watching the series last month. I’m not sure if anyone else picked up on this or felt this way, but a lot of Archie’s mannerisms and idealisms of what made America great made me wonder if Trump took used All in the Family as part of his playbook for his political agenda.
Fact: the family guy intro is inspired by this one.
