Texans are expected to hire former Buccaneers and Bears head coach Lovie Smith as their own head coach, sources tell me and @fieldyates.
Smith was the Texans’ associate head coach last season; all he now needs to do is drop the associate from his title.

As a non-Bears fan living in the Chicagoland area, I always liked Lovie. I think he’s a solid hire.
Maybe he won’t be fired for a 10-6 (or I guess 10-7 now) loss season this time.
Lovie took Rex Grossman to a superbowl. Maybe greatest coach of all time.
With all the talented minority coaches available it boggles my mind the Texans would hire Lovie Smith, a guy who was 9 games over .500 for his bears tenure and who owes all of his success in Chicago to Ron Rivera and the Bears defense with Urlacher, Lance Briggs and Tommie Harris
It’s no coincidence when Rivera left the Bears stopped being good and making the playoffs, Lovie Smith is also the guy who threw his support behind Kyle Orton and said he was his QB despite GM Jerry Angelo wanting to trade for or sign a real QB, lmao how did Kyle Orton turn out there Lovie?
So while it’s great the Texans have a minority head coach I don’t know why they’d pick a guy who has already proven he is a mediocre one instead of giving someone else a shot at turning their franchise around
