    >My pitt bull would never hurt a fly!!!

Well yeah, flys don’t scream in terror when getting mauled, pitty needs that sweet affirmation.

There is no reason to continue this dog breed. Pit bulls were bred into existence to bait and bite fucking *bears and bulls*. When that was banned, they were turned on each-other to fight to the death.

That instinct is still in their blood today. It’s not “just bad owners”. There are countless examples of pits who go years with zero signs of aggression and just snap one day and maul another animal or a person- it even happens to [expert dog trainers](https://people.com/crime/cesar-millan-pit-bull-allegedly-killed-queen-latifah-dog-bit-gymnast-report/) and [dog behavioral experts](https://www.reddit.com/r/BanPitBulls/comments/pye51r/why_the_author_of_pit_bulls_for_dummies_changed/). You can’t eliminate behavioral instinct just by being a good pet owner.

This is not a breed of dog we need in the 21st century. They serve no utility. They are not working animals. They don’t do anything better than any other breed (well, besides mauling people). They contribute to overcrowded shelters and more euthanized animals. And they suffer, themselves- there is still active dog fighting with them today. They’re over-bred, and many spend their lives in cages, pounds, and shelters because most sane people aren’t willing to adopt them.

It’s time to end this. End the breeding. End the suffering. It will end these stories. I know current pit owners will scoff at this, but you can even grandfather in ownership of current animals, and it will be over in a decade. Keep your pibble, enjoy him. If you want to live in ignorance, that’s fine. But there is no need to continue breeding them. It’s time to move on.

It’s amazing to me someone can be anti-gun and pro-pitbull. It’s literally point-for-point the same logic for both issues.

“Only irresponsible owners cause trouble” versus mauling after mauling in the news. Idealistic vs utilitarian.

I’m a pit mommy and it’s important to know that not all pitbulls are like this! Some of us take great effort in training our dogs and having them behave better than the shitty owners you see make the news.

Sure my baby likes to nibble toes, has torn off a few fingers, won’t stop growling at me and nipping towards my face if I sneeze too loud.

Yeah and my kids are terrified, won’t leave their room unless they’re going to school or a friends, the friends who won’t come over anymore because of course the pitbaby was playing rough with them and drew blood. Not her fault! She doesn’t know any better.

It was nice when my husband was around but he passed out drunk and mommies widdle pibby chewed through his neckmeat, again my puppy pwincess was just getting a free meal!

you need to stop disrespecting the breed, any dog would have done the same, they’re wild animals and we have no way to dictate how they behave , nor can we stop breeding them because how else is mommy gonna get her carton of smokes and case of mr boston to disinfect all the new bite marks.

My aunt was almost killed in August 2017 in this exact same town actually.

She was at her daughter in laws house picking up something for a party while nobody was home, and the daughter in aw requested if she would let the dogs out to potty. My aunt has known these dogs for years, taken care of them before, no biggie.

She opened the cage and for some reason, that day, these dogs decided My 55+ year old sweet aunt was a homewrecking threat and immediately turned on her.

No provocation, no reason whatsoever. Those dogs turned on her, took about 10-15 lbs of raw flesh off her arms, legs, side, torso, and hands. Basically mauled her in sport mode.

My cousin knew she was alone at the house and had a small gut feeling something was wrong when she wouldn’t answer her phone. He rushed over there to find his mom, my sweet aunt, laying in a pool of her own blood while thr dogs were attempting to finish her off. My cousin said the last thing he saw was one of the dogs go for her neck with its mouth, presumably to kill her, and he managed to punch it and scare it off in that moment.

Life flight came, landed a fucking helicopter in front of that crowded suburban home, and took her to the trauma center. My cousin said as soon as the paramedics arrived they told him she was certainly dead, and that they would do all they could.

Miraculously, she survived. She went through, and continues to go through, dozens of surgeries a year to repair the ligaments, tendons, muscles, and endless damage those dogs caused. She managed to keep all of her limbs minus a finger.

All of this to say……You’ll never guess what breed of dogs the two dogs were that did this to her. And since she was IN THE DOGS HOME the law said she was SOL and the dogs were just protecting their domicile. The drama that has caused is an entirely different thing (since these dogs are srill around and my cousin ended up marrying the girl who owned them….big yikes). But ya, pit bulls are cute and great until they almost murder your sweet harmless auntie.

For the record, my aunt still owns a dog, a sweet little heeler terrier mix who she loves desperately. She still loves dogs, just despises pit bulls for what I would say is a good reason.

Make it criminal to own a pit bull…tired of these stories

You’re irresponsible if you own or breed pit bulls period and putting anyone around you in danger as long as that dog is alive.

I wish these dogs mauled their owners instead of strangers

  • AccomplishedRun7978

Despite making up only 5.8% of the dog population you’re 213% more likely to get a severe injury from a Pit Bull than other dog breed.

I have an 18 month old and walk him around my neighborhood which was considered one of the nicer ones in the area when I was growing up.

I’ve been shocked at the amount of absolute batshit aggressive dogs that the owners barely acknowledge and let go insane for a minute straight as we walk by or just a half dozen dogs off leash we’ve ran into which were thankfully at least nice enough to not dart as us.

There does seem to be an attitude of entitlement that laws around dogs/animals never apply to THEM.

Neighbors across from my shop has 2 pits that they let the kids walk. I have seen them pull so hard that they are on the verge of loosing total control and they always walk them in pairs so we all know if one goes into attack mode the other will follow. None of this is the dogs fault but the reality is there a real dnger with breeds that have the potential to kill. And they can be the sweetest
most playful dog in the world….until they aren’t.

I’m so sick of hearing “adopt don’t shop” when the fucking rescue is full of pitbulls oops I mean lab mixes

  • Oneofmanymasks

I love dogs, I hate dog owners. Living in the city has shown me how little these people care about their animals. Put down the animals and jail the owners. Also make sure they can never be responsible for another being, human or animal.

  • Bigleftbowski

Pitbulls make up 6 percent of the dogs in America, yet account for 80 percent of fatal dog attacks. I still remember the poor woman who was delivering packages and was killed *and eaten* by the dogs in the yard.

  • BenCannibal

This is so sad, we don’t really have pitbulls in the UK but we have Staffordshire bull terriers. I have always been of the opinion that a dog is only as bad as it’s owner, but I recently saw a video of a Staffy non stop attacking a police horse and the fury and violence in it blew my mind.

I’m not naive, I love staffies and my Nan had one when we were kids and we used to sit on her back (Suzie the staffy not my Nan) and get rides round the house, never ever snapped.

But reading the stories here about how a lovely well behaved Pitt has eventually snapped and mauled children, dogs, family members I genuinely agree there’s no reason to have a dog like that and if they’re no longer being bred it would be a bet positive if they no longer existed.

I mean the name it’s I the name, these are dogs bred for pit fighting big animals, bears, bulls, they are well trained and bred for taking down a massive charging animal without fear and I do genuinely believe no matter how much you love your pittbulls they’re absolutely capable, and have shown time and time again, that completely unprovoked and with no warning one can and will murder something based on their energy.

Sure back in the day when we hunted or needed them to protect our encampments from invaders they were fantastic but as a house pet?

It just doesn’t make sense, they are fierce protectors but I would constantly be worried about what if?

Helpful tip if its a must fight for you life situation with an attacking dog, Hold one forearm in front of you to give the dog a target thats NOT your face or legs; When the dog jumps up to attack your arm – Kick the dog in the stomach or land a knee to the jaw(uppercut motion). Also if the dog is jumping at you, grab its 2 front legs and with all your might spread those legs apart like the splits.

Flailing around on the ground and screaming is probably the WORST thing one can do.

  • treriksroset

It’s a catch 22 with pit bull ownership.

Only responsible dog owners should be able to have them. But if you choose a pit bull instead of the literally hundreds of other breeds that isn’t created to maul victims to death, you are per definition not a responsible dog owner.

  • MindTheGapless

Pit bulls need to go, period. They will play, suddenly there’s blood everywhere, the other dog is missing a piece and the pit bull looks at you like he’s still just playing and having the time of his life. They are vicious without knowing they are vicious and that’s scary AF.

  • totalfuckwit

It’s not only an increase in irresponsible pet ownership it has become an increase of pit ownership as well. Too many people don’t understand the dangers of owning these dogs.
