We had just gotten the right to vote. Both men and women. It is not well known but native people did not get the right to vote the same time black americans did after the civil war. Natives had to wait till the womens right to vote to be included in the most basic rite in the USA. The peoples that were born here are not citizens of the US, however blacks are. There are a great many reasons behind this I will not get into, you can likely guess. It was not until after WWII that many of the south western states “allowed” the native peoples to vote.
The Snyder Act of 1924 admitted Native Americans born in the U.S. to full U.S. citizenship. Though the Fifteenth Amendment, passed in 1870, granted all U.S. citizens the right to vote regardless of race, it wasn’t until the Snyder Act that Native Americans could enjoy the rights granted by this amendment.
She is so pretty and the leather dress is amazing! I wonder why the doubtful face, she doesn’t seem comfy in the surroundings. Hopefully she and the baby got safe wherever they were going to.
I recall a member of (I think) the Creek tribe that came to participate in the Smithsonian Institution’s annual summer festival on the mall back in the 70’s saying the clothing, face tattooes/piercings and the embroidery on the clothing or how their hair was worn jewelry often distinguished which tribe a person was from. Are they shells or bones or bits of cloth sewn onto her dress, etc. Really nice picture.

She looks like Greta
There are fewer than 100 years between this photo and today. That is pretty amazing.
Edit: Basic grammar
Greta Thunderbird
Makes you wonder what became of the child.
“Call me that one more time, and my baby will throw up on you!”
Indigenous of what country?

I was going to say it reminded me of ifalna and aerith(ff7) but she does look like Greta lol

I’d hardly call her a woman, that’s a young girl 🙁 what a sweet funny baby though
That baby was adorable!
Its an amazing picture!! Quick question? How did they cut their finger nails back then
Indigenous… where?

Proving once more that babies have always been ugly

My 3x great grandfather was a code talker in world war one. None of the family knew about it until after he was gone. He never talked about it.
I’ve often thought about the fact he served and wasn’t even a us citizen
Indigenous where?
She’s gotta be somebody’s great-grandma. Anyone know her?
Such a special photo! ♥️♥️♥️
The most intensely perfect sideye I’ve ever seen honestly
The contrast of the old world vs new is incredible.
An amazing, yet sad photograph.
How I look waiting for a train that’s been delayed ten times
