The General Sherman Tree in Sequoia national park in California. Its amazing to see in person, and is one of many massive trees on the road towards it. This one is the most massive tree on the planet in terms of volume, and is thousands of years old.

The first time I went there, it was on a whim as I was somewhat nearby for work. My coworker and I had no idea how far it was inside the park but we were determined to get there. Well it was all uphill on the road there, and we ended up with our gas tank light lit up just as we got there. We had to coast down the hill for who knows how many miles on the way to the nearest gas station. It was an adventure for sure.

Hyperion is the (edit) tallest tree in the world at 380 ft and 800 yrs old. It’s in Cali somewhere. It doesn’t stick out like you’d think as many of the trees around it are also ridiculously tall.

As of this year you’re no longer allowed to go anywhere near it.

Sherman is bigger by volume though.
