My grandfather has big ass roosters in mexico that have killed hawks trying to take out hens sadly i only have videos of the roosters themselves they are real mean =/
I’m glad the hawk got away though. While it isn’t cool that it wanted to eat the hen they do a great job eating mice, squirrels, rabbits and other pests and I love that where I live raptors of all kinds are being more successful. (likely started decades ago by the elimination of DDT and helped along by other conservation efforts)
I was tempted to get a rooster and save a ton of money but I cant handle the noise they make.
Just got 12 hens myself. Set out to build their coop. I went a bit overboard I am sure but NOTHING is getting at them. So far the coop now has 2 vents, 1 thermo controlled vent fan, 1 inside cam, 1 outside cam, 1 motion sensor spotlight and a solar powered remote coop door. Planning on painting today and finishing their cistern.
I spent hours while building it thinking of any possible way for things to penetrate and ensured nothing gets in that isnt allowed in. Currently building their extra run. Its fully netted as well. Been using 1/4″ and 1/2″ hardware cloth for all netting.
That clucking they were doing at the beginning was their warning sound. The hen just panicked and couldn’t find her way back into the house.
I already missed having chickens, now I really do. I may even reconsider getting a rooster, looks like they perform a pretty important function in chicken society.
pretty cool capture!
A good lad doing his job and kicking ass.
Yeah that’s what roosters are for. Hens don’t need roosters to lay eggs they’re generally for protection.
It’s got to be the hen’s pimp. lol
Someone’s getting laid tonight, and it ain’t the egg
Chad.
Damm that Hen is dumb as balls.
That Rooster was like “I told you to get back in the house, woman!”
