I am Brazilian and never knew that, internet sometimes does a incredible job.
Just for information, Marajo, is not pronounced as in English/Spanish, like “Mara-ho/Mara-ro”, where the J sounds like R / H or something like that, The Jo of Marajo, sounds like Jo of Joseph, and it has a tone in it, so the name of the island is Marajó.
There was some Native Americans who lived in the Northeast part of Brazil, before it was colonized by Portugal, who lived in swamps and rivers. In a Portuguese priest (do not remember his name) journal, it’s said they ran on the swamps so fast it was scary, no one could best them in running, from how much they were so used to it, they had the habit of eating their enemies and were so energetic, when a man hit one of them on the head with an axe and it penetrated his brain, he kept fighting fiercely till eventually dying.
Northeast region of Brazil is so much rich in culture and nature, one of the best places to visit independently if you are or not from Brazil. I am from Southeast, here we have cool places too, like Rio de Janeiro where I come from, beaches and points of interest like Pao de Açucar or Cristo Redentor and Minas Gerais, where I live who has great Mountain range and cities with amazing architecture like Ouro Preto.
