That looks awesome! Hope you had a fun time.
Hilarious, and cool.
is turning difficult? would ice skating be possilbe?
I’ll give this post some background:
Three years ago I had my feet amputated due to an uniquely aggressive form of plantar fascial fibromatosis. Since then we’ve been trying to figure out how to make life easier for me. My wife challenges me in many ways to improve mobility and function.
I’ve been skiing a lot every winter since I was just a kid. It’s my favorite activity, and happily a passion I share with my wife. The last few seasons since my surgeries I’ve been using my sitski. It’s been a lot of fun and I feel like I’ve really been enjoying the mountains with my family.
These feet is new beast to get used to. I had a fun day experimenting something I’d never thought I would again. Hopefully I’ll get used to it quickly so I can have even more fun with the kids in the slopes!
Also, if you want to follow our journey take a look at my Instagram @ampisallen.
Happy new year!
My hero!
just remember, if you french fries when you should pizza, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Hey not gonna lie, looks pretty badass
Keep up the hard work! You’ll be shredding in no time!
How many times did you say “It’s freezing out here! I can’t even feel my feet”
I hope I start seeing this tech more often on the slopes. The sitskis were already really impressive but this is next level cool
Indomitable spirit! GO brother. You are building a life that ALL can admire.
Looks rad. How does the safety release work? Like a normal binding or does the whole prosthetic come off at the stump?
Did you yard sale on your first day??
How did it feel compared to regular skiis? are the fine adjustments you make hard to feel/do? they look fuckin 10/10
Badass… I hope you had an amazing day dude. I wonder if those would work for hard boot snowboarding (carving) as well. not that skiing isn’t fun by itself. Just thinking of other winter sports somebody could use things like that for.
That’s awesome! And you don’t have to worry about cold feet.
Freakin’ cyborgs, man…
You are my hero man, happy shredding love the hair too.
This is awesome. Glad you have fun on them!
What did it cost?
Fuck yah dude!
Also, I would have loved to see the tech workers face when you brought in your “boots” and bindings for a mount.
Break a leg buddy have fun.
Skiing without the chance of frozen and smashed toes? Almost seems like an upgrade.
I would imagine that the chances of breaking a leg, at that point, is greatly reduced. But probably not zero.
Man I bet it was so cold you couldn’t feel your toes…
I’m so sorry, I had to. Wish you all the best dude!
You look awesome and futuristic! Enjoy the freedom! And hey – no cold feet skiing!
That is super cool! Is that some kind of pneumatic or spring ankle to provide resistance to lean into?
Single bk. I tried it once with a single ski and modified crutches that had ski tips on the bottom. It was exhausting. I was always worried about trying it with a prosthesis on. I envisioned doing serious damage to my knee if I fell and had a serious tumble down the hill with it on.
Keep your dreams alive out there.
You are the man
You should take up racing, you’ll have an aerodynamic advantage
The engineering that went into those must be incredible. NGL, the kinda look like General Grievous decided to hit the slopes. Badass.
Put some Wile E. Coyote rockets on the babies and let’s see that video
And …. do good I hope!
Holy shit man. That’s the most impressive thing I’ve seen in a while. And also, i need to be more adventurous.
Very star wars droid looking! Also, the rear bindings (?) could use some flame decals! And maybe a few tassels 🙂
You are dope as fu*k. Keep pushing yourself. Love it.
Congrats!
sweet fucking christ. i never knew i had to chop off my feet to get better at moguls…
one hell of a setup.
You look so cool
So how did it go? Don’t leave us hanging, this photo is so cool and we are so excited to hear about it.
