What’s worse is, when you finally kill the apparently infinite-ammo-having bastards, looting them only gets you 5-10 bullets… Tops!
I’m looking at you, Last of Us.
All except fallout 4 fuckin annoying refilling your companions ammo mid fight lmao
I want a walking stick that looks like the bottom one.
This is how the guns feel in Bioshock
Fallout 76!
It’s called a challenge.
The fucking Raya lucaria academy mages in elden ring
I really want to play a game one day where the NPCs have to reload same as me.
Halo, always trade rocket launcher and any heavy weapon with an NPC. You’re now support, they are an infinite rocket machine.
This is because NPCa are usually coded to miss the first few shots intentionally. If they could run out of ammo the player could just pop out and duck in cover a few dozen times and they would use all their ammo intentionally missing.
The reason they intentionally miss is so it feels fair to the player but still feels action packed and dangerous.
It’s pretty simple.

Bloodborne hunter NPC’s doing some funny math with their quicksilver bullet count.
“Firearm spam is my personality”
At least some games put in the effort to make them reload.
Others does go full auto and dont stop.
Same as if enemy bosses had unlimited magic points in RPGs, it would become trivial to beat them just by waiting them out.
Not bullets, but those fucking mages in Elden Ring with infinite stamina and mana annoy me to no end.
And they conveniently have no ammo left when they die
Unmodified Halo 1 pistol.
You’re reloading takes 10 seconds while the NPC just does an animation while moving and still shooting.
They need that many. Have you seen how many bullets you can take comparatively? One and done for them while all you need is 5 seconds and a wet washcloth to get the strawberry jam out of your eyes.
To be fair, you can magically reload new magazines without losing the ammo in existing one.
Are there any games where a boss runs out of ammo and switches to phase 2?
And they miss 99% of bullets
Play metro series. There npc run out of bullets. Then they switch to secondary. It is pistol or shotgun. Then they half rush to you. Secondary hold about 3 shells or 5 bullets. They don’t spray and shoot. Only shooting, when see you
I wish when the enemy’s bullets almost runs out they might ask for a parley. Then the social battles begin again, or the melee with fist and kung fus and pipes and bottles and knives, if the enemies are nasty bunch.
Boy, if only I played enough gun games to say “that’s relatable” (has played Ratchet & Clank, Last Of Us, other gun games that has a lot of ammo)
There’s a practical reason for that – no need to implement additional AI behaviours – if bullets weren’t infinite then NPCs would have to run to resupply points or transition to melee weapons.
Classic Fallout experience. Shoots you for eternity, only has 7 bullets when you loot him.
Ya but a NPC has but one life to give.
They have to reload in cyberpunk
Then in RE4 you have thousands of rounds of ammo lying all around the place and yet I’ve seen exactly ONE gun in the village, a shotgun in one of the homes. It’s just that the player happens to take that very shotgun, so no guns for the villagers.
