Stupid management killed TRU. Dumbasses spent all their money to turn the company private again. They then had no money to maintain the stores, pay vendors and keep supplies in stock. They then decided to bring in hedge fund guys to “help” who proceeded to dump more debt onto the company, pay themselves huge amounts and give themselves huge severance packages. The company couldn’t recover from their own stupidity when competition from Walmart and target started ramping up. By the time internet shopping started really picking up steam they were already on life support with no hope. It’s sad that they got so greedy that they ruined a classic childhood experience. Luckily Canada was spared from the stupidity and still has fully functional TRUs while we in the US are stuck with those pathetic mini sections inside some Macy’s
Hardly. Best Buy was in very bad shape. Turns out bringing in a great leader like Hubert Joly was a great idea. So was Brian Dunn getting caught nailing his secretary. While they’re not perfect by any stretch of the word it’s leagues better now than it was 10 years ago.
I remember when they started closing stores. There was a very good likelihood at the time that they were going to end up closing several hundred stores. People were freaking out, not just the floor, but management that had been around for a long time.
You can’t blame everything on the internet. I love that I can buy something from my phone and get a text less than an hour later to come get it. They’ll even drop it off in your vehicle, you don’t even have to get out of your car.
