SNL should have stuck with this ‘All in the Family’/’both sides’ style of comedy instead of going pathologically all-anti-Trump. The only other time they did it was with the Black family vaccine sketch.

What a great era this was. 2 weeks before Trump was elected. Everything was fun. The future looked bright. Then nothing good ever happened again.

Tom Hanks gets a lot of deserved credit for this sketch, but Kenan is hilarious too. He has so many great little lines.

    “There was a time!”

This might be my favorite SNL skit of all time, but it’s more than that.

This skit brilliantly showcases one of the greatest tragedies of the US – that our society has managed to disenfranchise two groups of people simply through the promotion of racism. If the groups represented here realized they have more in common than different, they would have political power. But as long as they are successfully played against each other, they will both continue to be disenfranchised politically and economically.

this was great writing, typically from when they bring jim(edit) downey back. too much of snl evolved into ‘clapter’, passing off cheap jokes pandering simple liberal talking points. every baldwin trump was criminally unfunny, many times just saying stuff he’d normally say. I need the crafted jokes.

To provide some context too, this was a recurring sketch which usually had two black contestants and some yuppie, white liberal stereotype who was incredibly out of touch. So for the MAGA guy to actually get it better than the others was a hilarious turn.

Best SNL sketch. Hilarious to this day and has such a powerful underlying truth to it that is missed too often.

I think my new favorite part to this skit is Kenan’s wide-eyed, silent “My GOD, he *gets it!*” reaction after realizing Hanks’ character got one right. It’s so damn funny.

As a non American it’s hard to understand what the jokes are about (I have no idea), but the deliveries are outstanding.

This may be the best-written and best performed sketch in SNL history. Definitely the most insightful social commentary they’ve ever done. Deep, thoughtful, and hilarious.

The fascinating thing is that this isn’t just an American phenomenon. In Germany and many European countries, poorer “white” families tend to exhibit behavioral patterns that are stereotypically associated with turkish immigrants, several that the MAGA guy and the black people showed too. I think it’s safe to say that the origins of such behavioral patterns are not racial but simply economical and transcent culture.

As vile as it is, I’ve to applaud whoever had the idea to play poor people against each other. Can’t have a revolution and restructuring of the system if the disadvantaged classes are too busy hsting each other.

Also, when I said turkish behavior I actually mean turkish instead of middle eastern. Since most muslim immigrants, besides those from Turkey, are actually disproportionately well-off and educated (up to 75% with Iraqian and Iranian immigrants for example), compared to their German peers. This excludes, immigrants from Syria and Afghanistan since their circumstances are completely different.

The same episode as David S. Pumpkins. Hanks pulled out a finely drawn character study and a balls to the wall silly cartoon within 60 minutes of each other. Just an absolute showcase for his talent.
