• Thomas Edison had patents on the film production industry, and so many people moved as far away from Edison as they could, to California.
• Hollywood in general was only hours drive away from blistering deserts, rural city, woodlands, beach and oceans. It was almost the perfect diverse film location.
Fewer rules and regulations, cheaper land.
