The Colbert Report during the writers’ strike was better than Colbert’s current show. He has one of the most disappointing career arcs in the whole entertainment industry.
The Daily Show/Colbert Report 1-2 punch was just the absolute peak.
Jon was barely up to Conan’s knee.

Conan made Huckabee? 🙁
2023
Jimmy Fallon vs James Corden
That was absolutely beautiful
Conan’s Late Night during the writer’s strike remains some of my favorite television of all time. His long, meandering being-the-scene documentary/interviews with different tech personnel from his show were hilarious. The guy can vamp. Having a format to highlight all of the talent that made the show possible while goofing off seemed like Conan at his most natural.
Makes sense, they need writers, they’re not funny in real life, just f^&%ing stupid
I remember that night. My friends and I were very amused.
“Did we settle our dispute? I don’t know. It depends on how long the strike lasts.”
I’m reminded of the effect a writers’ strike had on the show “Moonlighting” where they wound up [making a kind of music video for the song “Wooly Bully”.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gr5xEvAeUo)
That’s awesome
conan checking on his stunt double was great. i wonder if they’ll do it again, now that there’s a new writer’s strike?
Not really though it’s conan visiting the Comedy Central sister shows. the farewell to james cordon vid would be more like avengers. even letterman showed up
Man, I miss all of these guys. That was the golden age of talk shows to me. I hate the talks shows that are on currently.
Quick note if anyone was wondering, these shows did shut down for several weeks during the writers’ strike that year. It’s just that, after some time had passed, they felt that they needed to put a show on the air so their non-writing staffers could pay their bills. The hosts/shows could support them out of pocket for a little while, but not indefinitely.
Avengers level? What the fuck is wrong with you guys.
Wow, i remember watching this when it aired.
Conan talked about shooting the fight scene once on the podcast. I think it was Colbert’s episode. Anyway, he was backstage rehearsing the fight and caught Stephen putting up his dukes like hes a 1940s boxer and immediately knew that they would be fast friends.
I know Colbert and Stewart, but who’s that red-headed lesbian, and why is she so ~~sad~~ angry?
