That comma, is unnecessary.

I surfed in deep fog once that this reminds me of, except it wasn’t cloudy above the fog.
Found myself sitting behind the waves, after heading into semi-foggy conditions, maybe 50-70 meters from the shore, suddenly surrounded by thick fog that got thicker quicker than I’d anticipated. Grey all around you, and it got eerily quiet too. Couldn’t see the shore, nor could I hear any of the other surfers or even the waves very well, fog has a way of making things eerily quiet.
But when I looked up, I saw blue sky and sunshine. Was very strange and somewhat scary when I realised I had no point of reference as to where I was from the shore or other surfers. Paddled around for a while and then kinda got a sense of where the shore was and since the swell died I figured I’d call it a day.
Was simultaneously one of the most peaceful and eery moments I’ve had in nature.
