That lady is 4’2” though
Holy shit, i had no idea!
How big was Goliath?!?
The block of marble given to Michelangelo was actually been previously worked by two other artists, Agostino di Duccio (in 1464) and Antonio Rossellino (in 1475).
>Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475 – 1564) was in his early twenties when he was commissioned to create a statue representing the biblical hero of David. He was offered a colossal block of marble which had been previously worked by two other artists, Agostino di Duccio (in 1464) and Antonio Rossellino (in 1475).

“Give it up, Karen! I’m not pulling your finger again!” – David
His dong doesn’t look so small anymore, does it?
Some things are just scaled wrong in people’s mind. Everyone always seems amazed at how big David is, but anyone who’s been to NYC tells me how much smaller the statue of liberty is then they thought, despite dwarfing David.

According to [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_(Michelangelo)#:~:text=David%20is%20a%20masterpiece%20of,David):
> David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, created in marble between 1501 and 1504 by the Italian artist Michelangelo. David is a 5.17-metre (17 ft 0 in)[a] marble statue of the Biblical figure David, a favoured subject in the art of Florence.
Legitimately breathtaking to see in person.
That’s huge
The reason he’s enormous is because initially the plan was to have David on the roof of Santa Maria del Fiore. So hes massive and oddly proportioned because the statue would be quite far away.
So contrary to popular opinion, I guess his pee-pee is really big…
Alright someone photo shop it so the lady looks even smaller
It is huge and breathtaking. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen.
Nut Shots for everyone!
Amazing. Would really love to see in person someday.
This would be much more impactful if she were pointing about 2.5 meters lower.
I visited there during Christmas last year. There is one masterpiece after another in that little museum. So much to take in, the few hours I spent there went by in a flash.
I had no idea! Definitely something I want to see in person.
Only piece of art that has literally brought me to tears. So amazing.
I need a banana for scale.
she should’ve been holding a banana
If that’s David, how big was Goliath?
[Relevant](https://youtu.be/Vg15igrdJT4)
I find Renaissance religious art mostly boring but it’s an incredible work of art to see in person; every recreation of it that I’ve seen is a faint shadow of the original. The expressiveness and detail is shocking, especially at such a scale.
Love this photograph, it looks like the Michaelangelo painting where God is reaching out
Are you telling me his dick is actually huge?!
I don’t see any bananas, how am I meant to judge the scale accurately?
boop.
„Give it back! Now, give the blanket back to moma. I‘m not gonna ask twice, young man.“
I don’t know how they keep something that massive all in proportion. I could imagine doing that and after…like 15 years…when I finish it I stand back and notice I gave it hobbit proportioned feet.
Wow! I always thought it was life size!
Her hand will make him look huge.

Huh, I always thought it was life sized.
Dat [ass](https://vanda-production-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/2018/07/25/12/32/12/8cf805c1-6feb-4c1c-bc18-4787ed1281c3/Alien2.jpg) tho
Whhhhhhaaaaaaaaattttttt!!!?
I thought it was like a mannequin.
Wowzers.
The forced perspective of this picture.
Oh jeez, I always thought it was a 1:1 model of a person!
This does not prove the scale that could be an incredibly tiny lady
