Judging by the comments some people are missing the context.
In this episode Charmers had let the school go to absolute hell and refused to do anything about it. With push-over Ned Flanders acting as Principal, the kids ran the school. Bullies took over and all learning ceased. Chalmers didn’t give a shit that Ned was doing a horrible job as Principal. Then he heard a prayer and that was the only thing that got Ned fired.
His outrage at the simple mention of God is funny because it’s juxtaposed with his uncaring attitude to the clearly horrible job Ned was doing everywhere else.
Simpsons once again, always had it right.
