Impressive how small it looks now.
I counted 6 stages on world 1. Other 9 on world 2…
I guess the game may have about 50 stages on total? It always felt soo long.
EDIT: quick counted it all… 65 stages?
*Looks at maps. Remembers Tubular.*
I miss those Friday and Saturday nights playing this
the objectively best Mario.
loved playing this on my gameboy
I can remember almost every level, but forget my court dates
Nothing will ever come close to being a kid playing this on SNES and figuring out all the different paths for the levels. Accidentally discovering one of the Star Road paths and thinking “what the hell is this” is one of my favorite gaming memories.
Pictuired: Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, circa 35 ADP, Colorized
I grew up with the GBA version. Spent years trying get past that bullshit loop in world 6. Would try to beat every level, look for secret everywhere. I got it when I was 8 and think I was 13 or 14 when I finally beat this damn game. Went back last year and beat the game in a day. I think I was just a dumb kid.
Its my favorite Mario Platformer. Others are great… but none shine as bright as this gem.
1. Super Mario World
2. Super Mario Bros. 3
3. Super Mario Galaxy 2
4. Super Mario Odyssey
5. Super Mario 3D Land
Honorable mentions: Galaxy, SM64 & New SMB
PS. Super Mario Bros. 2 (NA) rings my nostalgia bell hard. I love it.
This was the first game I ever played and is easily still one of my favorites.
The Lands Between. I guess Caelid used to be connected to the mountaintops, rather than Limgrave.
How nostalgic seeing this. Thank you.
One of my earliest memories as a little kid was playing this game with my dad. He’d be Mario and advance through the levels, I’d play as Luigi and rerun some of the early levels to give my extra lives to my dad.
The map seemed so much bigger when I was younger.
I was honestly lucky to even make it to the 2nd castle. I was (and still am) dogshit at this game. Still loved it.
I can hear every part of this map. And so can all of you.
So many great memories there.
It had a ton of replay value for the SNES at that time. Trying to find all those different color Yoshi’s, blocks, and keys to unlock the star level that if you beat unlocks a different version of the game and just a lot of secrets to find.
I’d say it offers more replay value than Zelda’s A Link to the Past which is most people’s #1 game on the system. But once you beat it there’s nothing much else to do.
man what a game. Just looked at the map and the classic tune started playing in my head.
What’s the island in the southwest?, don’t recall ever seeing that
I remember it being alot bigger lol
I never figured out how to get from the bridge to the water.
wait so after the rocky stage is the final stage? Why did I stop at the last rocky castle… now I gotta beat it.
I miss when I could play this on flash
I had two saves on my SNES. One with 100% completion, and other with everything but the last Special level completed. That way, I could play anything in the game in either art/costume style.
I can hear each part of map themes when I look at them. Damn!
Best game ever
I can hear this image.
(Can still *96 this game)
On the 2nd island from the start point; there are two tunnels next to each other. They should have a trail connecting them as well. There is an alternate ending in that map (the two tunnels at 10’o clock from bowser castle).
Easily one of my top 5 games of all time. Maybe even top 3
It lowkey looks like San Andreas’ map
I can hear this map.
Refresh my memory. What was that sign island on the bottom left?
Did anyone else get lost in the forest of illusion
Classic.
One of the best games of its generation and indeed ever in my view.
I remember it feeling bigger.
