The shocking part about this is the baseball player! JFC. A decent left handed reliever costs $10M and the highest paid Marlin is only making $12M? What a cheapskate, doesn’t want to field a competitive team owner those poor fans have to deal with.

Wow, I guess that’s what you get when you combine American sport business management with football’s global reach. I’m bet they’re crossing their fingers that he delivers something near that value for them though!

But with everything else that comes with this deal what is he really going to make per year? It isn’t $500+ million he would have gotten from the saudis. Which I am happy he didn’t take.

While i never heard all other names, Messi is the best player of a game that has worldwide popularity neither of other american major sports dare to dream about. I am surprised someone’s Butler is payed almost as much as him though

I did hear that someone offered Messi a shitload of money to play soccer in a fascist theocracy, but I didn’t realize it was Florida.

That’s a bargain for how many eyes will be on him and the MLS.

Even if he doesn’t score a goal I think it will be money well spent

This entire time I’ve been reading “Inter Miami” as “Inter Milan” and wondering why everyone was making such a big deal out of it.

The Marlins are so pathetic. Their DH is their highest paid player, and he’s only on 12. I don’t know for sure, but I’m pretty much half the yankees, mets, braves, red sox, and probably a few more, make more than that.

I loved how they had to compare Messi to athletes in other sports cuz soccer players are too poor to be compared to 😂

Messi is single handedly going to make more than the total salary of the #2 and #3 team combined.

Well the MLS salary cap rules seem strange af. Looks like the salary cap is roughly 5 million per team with a maximum salary per player of ~$650,00, but there can be up to 3 designated players per team that can be paid over the maximum salary without having any impact on the salary cap. So basically you can pay 3 superstars whatever the hell you want and then only have restrictions for the rest of the roster.

Someone please correct me if I got any of that wrong that was all off a quick google search as I have no previous familiarity with MLS rules and was just curious.

They compared him to a lowly paid NFL player to make Messi number look more impressive. Why not compare him against your run of the mill quarterback? Is he no leader? Carrier of teams?

Even a Honda looks good if you compare it to a Kia.

This morning I looked to see whether Miami played in Chicago (which is the closest MLS franchise to where I live). A week from Saturday, Chicago plays Columbus, the face value of a ticket in Section 105, Row 7 and purchased from the Chicago Fire is $43.75. The Fire play Miami on Wednesday, October 4th. The face vale of a ticket in Section 105, Row 18 and purchased from the Chicago Fire (not a reseller) is **$450.00**.

This is incorrect. These figures are in GBP and should be in USD.

Butler’s salary in USD is 37.65mil which is 29.4 GBP.

But point taken. Messi is getting paid.

Sad to see such a great player end his career in a washed-up league that they call football “soccer”, he still can do amazing things in Europe or even Saudi, but MLS? Idk
