Banning books is the best way to encourage rebels to read those books specifically.

Libraries often have a ‘banned books’ section.

Why worry about what a school bans? You can buy all books on kindle whenever you want. Expose your kids to them. Don’t let a school dictate what they read.

  • Juan_Carlo

All their kids are at home jerking off to porn hub while they are at the HS trying to ban a comic book with a PG-13 drawing of some titties on like one panel.

  • indefatabagel

Wait… you mean there are some books… which are not appropriate for some schools?? That is fucking incredible, who could possibly have conceived of that? Anyone with more than two brain cells?

  • nzstrawman

the Nazis and the Taliban banned books too

It should frighten you, I’m pleased to see some people say what the f@ck to the dictator in charge of that state

  • Luder714

Has anyone gone and read certain lines out of the bible to them yet? It fits their description of a banned book more than many others that they banned.

I saw Florida schools and DeShithead banned books like To Kill a Mockingbird and Night by Elie Wiesel. Night is truthfully one of the most beautiful books I’ve read because it highlights the horrors of the Holocaust and helps vindicate the people who were forgotten and treated awfully. It’s almost like a piece of history and something to remind anyone to never tread that far into discrimination again, but for some fucking reason Florida and United States schools want to ban it. There’s no way around it, they just want to silence controversial things like that because the ones in power truthfully feel nothing for those events and are so sociopathic that they wouldn’t care if things like the holocaust happened again as long as they’re still making money. They want to erase it from history completely for the new generations of kids because they’re the biggest sacks of bigoted shit. Like banning a holocaust book, really dude? Sounds like the idiots in charge really want to go all in on saying it was fake.

My school library had Mein Kampf available. Gotta tell you, that author should have chosen a different profession. ( Seriously it’s almost unreadably bad)

  • FearkTM

Remember when open a drawer in a small school library, and Mein Kampf was lying there. I stole it.. just to..you know, to stop someone trying to become a nazi.

It makes me sad that the elderly are so adamant about keeping the things the way they’ve been when it clearly isnt working. Life is change. Books help that change occur.

Fear is what book banning is about. Ignorant intolerant selfish fear

Families in lower socioeconomic communities rely on libraries for improved education outcomes.

Educated people are more likely to vote liberal.

I wonder if these two facts are linked, somehow…

  • Competitive-Shoe1581

It’s called a “book burning”, which this is not. Calling it a “book banning” doesn’t make it more dramatic. The school board is appropriately banning books filled with smut that have no business being in schools.

  • Rethread

Banning books at a school or library should be illegal. That’s bad governance. If you want better governance, maybe don’t ban books.

  • Most-Pangolin-9874

What they need to do is come together as parents pool the money (whatever they can afford) and buy these books and start their own library. Then the kids can actually learn the true history and read about gays and whatever else. It’s just weird that they pull the diary of Anne frank but have no issues with a nazi book. Way to show your true colors. They are supposed to be educating kids not cherry picking what they want them to know

  • spam322

Wish all sides could start with simple facts in this debate instead of emotion. Even in this thread there’s actually people equating school libraries with public libraries. How can we solve anything starting there?

  • headedtojail

In this thread: a surprising amount of prude Americans. Holy hell, what are you even doing on Reddit? Or the Internet, nudity lurks around every corner, be vigilant, you might glimpse a nipple!

  • colebrv

The parents who don’t want their kids reading certain books should just send a letter to the school saying they don’t want their kids reading a list of books they provide. Seriously why do conservatives want to take away other parents rights.

  • ChaosInUrHead

Your universities ban books, your country is fucking doomed. 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 where ment to be warnings, not fucking guides….
