My friends and I loved the SNES Multitap because it allowed us to play games with more than just 2 players. Saturday Night Slam Masters was one of our favorites since it allowed up to 4 players! Lots of hilarity ensued as we pretended to be the characters and said wacky wrestling dialogues trying to be “in character” while fighting.
A classic!
I really wish someone would release a fun wrestling game. I feel like wrestling games peaked in the N64 era.
A couple fun facts about this game:
– The characters (outside of one) were designed by Tetsuo Hara. He’s more widely known as the guy that made Fist of the North Star.
– That one character that wasn’t designed by him? That’s Mike Haggar from Final Fight. Future mayor of Metro City.
– The game has two sequels that were arcade exclusive. Muscle Bomber Duo, which added tag battles and special teams, and the true sequel Ring of Destruction, which is more like a fighting game.
– The character Gunloc is rumored to be the brother of Guile from Street Fighter, although it’s not officially confirmed.
The memories of this game and games like it can bring a tear to my eye.
This was in the arcade at my local mall. I could beat the whole game and waste hours playing for just 50 cents.
Mean while new games remove split screem because 4 player in a room is unthinkable
Flapjack!
I really think WrestleMania 2000? With the character creation was the best
Recently discovered Haggar is based off of Don Frye. Just thought that was kinda cool.
I love these old wrestling games! We had WWF Royal Rumble for the SNES when I was a kid and boy howdy the hours a friend and I spent on that game were atrocious. We would always tag team the entire ring until the end, then we’d decided winner via rock paper scissors. Loser gets tossed out in fantastic fashion, then do it all again!
Was an arcade game in my local video rental.
I did not have enough 20p,s a pop
I want a modern version so bad. Video games let’s the impossible be fun and common and wrestling is so over the top already. Take my money Capcom and make a new one
Vince McMahon loooooves those muscles
I loved this game so much as a kid! This was like the second video game I ever owned. I loved playing Scorpion!
I used to love renting this game and playing as the Rey Mysterio guy
Wait a minute, HAGGAR from Final Fight was in a wrestling game???
It’s like a Bad Dudes wrestling match
Was soooo hyped everytime my friend got wrestling games.. was a very magical time
Haggar!!
